We have an important update about The Big Bad Project’s Rescue Network.

After a lot of discussion and reflection, we have made the difficult decision to sunset the Rescue Network program.

We created this network because we believed rescues and sanctuaries deserved a space for honest conversations, resource sharing, and collaboration. In many ways, it worked. We know this program helped organizations learn from each other, build connections, and feel less alone in this work, and we are incredibly proud of that.

But we also learned that collaboration is harder than we hoped. Many organizations were not willing to openly share challenges, mistakes, or operational realities, and without that level of participation, a network like this cannot function the way it was intended to.

We are a small organization, and we have to be very intentional about where we put our time and energy. Moving forward, we will be focusing on our coexistence and education programs, where we know we can have the greatest impact.

We are very proud of what the Rescue Network accomplished and very grateful to the people who showed up, shared knowledge, and were willing to have honest conversations.

We truly hope that collaboration and transparency in the rescue community continue to grow and improve over time.

Many thanks to those who sat on our Steering Committee for this program, dedicating their time and knowledge so that others could benefit.

“Be scared of me, I’ll eat your face… omnomnomnomnom.”

Sir. That is a turkey neck.

We routinely give our ambassadors bone in meats like turkey necks to support dental health, jaw strength, and natural chewing behaviors. It is enrichment. It is nutrition. It is also apparently very threatening if you have never seen a wolf enjoy a snack before.

This is the part people miss. Wolves are not out here plotting chaos. They are eating, playing, resting, and doing exactly what they are supposed to do in a functioning ecosystem.

At The Big Bad Project, we Rewrite the Wild by challenging fear based narratives and sharing what wolf behavior actually looks like. Science matters. Context matters. And yes… sometimes it looks like “omnomnomnom.”

If you are into wolf conservation, wildlife management, environmental education, and seeing what these animals are really like behind the scenes, you are in the right place.

Follow for more wolves, more reality, and fewer bad takes.

POV: You live in the Midwest, but you are mentally already in July.

It is 19 degrees, feels like 11, and it is snowing.

Fear not, ambassadors Tiberius and Wyatt would like you to know they are completely unbothered. Wolves are built for this weather. Thick coats. Snow paws. They're just living their best cold weather lives.

The only ones actually complaining about winter around here are the humans. (Us, it is us... we're over it)

Still… watching wolves splash around in water on a hot summer day feels pretty good right now. Let's be real though, we will probably complain that it's too hot when July rolls around.

If you love wolves, wildlife, conservation, and the little moments that remind us why these animals matter, you are in the right place. At The Big Bad Project we work to Rewrite the Wild by sharing real wolf behavior and supporting science based wildlife management and predator coexistence.

Follow for more wolves, conservation, and behind the scenes moments with our ambassadors.

We know she isn’t a wolf, but we had to share an update on Norma Louise, because transparency matters here.

This is Norma Louise, our resident dachshund mix, professional side-eye specialist, and proud foster fail. She came in as a foster and stayed because… well… Louise has a personality that politely says “not everyone could handle me.” We could. So she’s family now. 🐾

Right now, she’s down for the count with canine influenza, which is ripping through our pack. Yes… All 10 of our canines (including Ambassador Tibbi & Wyatt) are currently quarantined.

A few facts because misinformation spreads faster than viruses on the internet:
• Canine influenza is highly contagious between dogs
• It spreads through respiratory droplets, surfaces, and shared spaces
• Symptoms often look like coughing, fever, lethargy, and loss of appetite
• Dogs usually recover, but immunocompromised pups like Louise get hit harder

So this very sleepy potato in the video? She’s fighting off the flu and taking the world’s longest nap.

Running a wolf conservation nonprofit means sometimes we’re talking policy and coexistence.
Sometimes it means nine quarantined canines and a lot of laundry.

Wildlife work isn’t always glamorous. Sometimes it’s just caretaking. For wolves, rescues, and the weird little foster fails who become family.

If you’re here for the real side of wolf conservation, stick around and follow

WTF is going on with Ambassador Wyatt? Any idea what she might be thinking?

Be creative. Be dramatic. Be wildly inaccurate if you must (we appreciate it, trust us).

For centuries, wolves have been cast as villains in stories about nature. Turns out they are just animals, doing animal things, holding entire ecosystems together...you know, normal stuff.

At The Big Bad Project, we spend a lot of time challenging the myths that shape wolf conservation and wildlife management. Because when the story is wrong, the policy usually is too (you know we're right).
