Have you ever wanted to ask another caregiver a question about how they cope with the tasks, worries, and routines of caring for a loved one with head and neck cancer? Would you like a chance to share information and learn from others who are in your shoes?

A special support group has been formed to provide such a forum. Caregivers can benefit from sharing their particular challenges and victories, or simply hearing from others who are going through the same things. Taking care of ourselves helps us better take care of our loved ones.

May is Skin Cancer Awareness month and Dr. Tang will be speaking on the topic at the upcoming HNC Support Meeting on May 2nd at 10am PT.

Skin cancers are the most common types of cancer. UV radiation from sunlight and tanning beds increases the risk of skin cancers. In this talk, we will discuss the different types of the most common skin cancers, risk factors, prevention, treatment options, and general skin health. We will also look at various skin lesions and discuss when to see a doctor.

Liyang Tang, MD, is an otolaryngologist at Keck Medicine of USC, who specializes in head and neck cancer surgery, including microvascular reconstruction, thyroid and parathyroid surgery.

April is Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month and the goal of this initiative is to encourage adults who are at high risk for oral, head and neck cancer to take advantage of the nationwide free screenings and the importance of recognizing symptoms and seeking timely medical intervention.

As Head and Neck Cancer patients, care-givers, and survivors, we have much to offer from first-hand experience.

In addition to education, hncsupport.org fosters a sense of community. Support networks, survivor stories, and shared experiences help individuals realize they are not alone. Emotional support is a crucial part of the healing process, and connecting with others who understand the journey can significantly improve mental well-being. Caregivers also benefit from tailored resources that help them better support their loved ones.
