Green Arrow CoLab

Green Arrow CoLab We provide an earth-based gardening and mindfulness program for system-impacted youth.

Green Arrow Co-Lab provides an alternative and progressive juvenile justice solution that helps individuals connect to nature, build confidence, and explore their passions. Green Arrow is focused on healing the whole self through restorative and mindfulness practices to prepare participants for a future of success. We work in conjunction with schools, prisons, juvenile detention centers, community

spaces, and after-school programs. Eventually we dream of having our own farm location for intensive healing and transformation that acts as a reentry facility and/or diversion program for those facing possible sentencing.

🪣👖👕💙 We had beautiful time at our latest workshop on the ancient, natural practice of indigo dyeing. For our gardening and mindfulness teachers and earth/liberation fellow alumni It was not just about the color; it was also about the slow, intentional, and sustainable practice in itself that weekend.

🦋🩵Thank you to our very own for taking that weekend to teach us that we can carry the Indigo dyeing process as a symbol for personal and collective transformation. We spent our time together exploring the ancient plant dye indigo while examining the the expired stories—both personal and of our shared world—and reimagining what a more just, loving, and equitable world would look like. Sealing the visions on prayer flags in a fructose indigo vat.

💚☀️🌻 🏞️🚶🏽‍♀️🚶🏽Through our Earth and Liberation fellowship we at Green Arrow prioritize getting our fellows out into nature and on hikes. As we believe that it is essential for restoring their nervous system. Regular exposure to green spaces reduces stress and anxiety while improving cognitive focus and emotional resilience.

📱📴 It also provides a vital break from digital overstimulation which is something that is much needed in our Society today and not only with our young population, but adults as well🌱🪴

💚 Lastly a big, thank you to our garden and mindfulness teachers who facilitated the hike and ensure that everybody made it home safe🙏🏽

⬇️🗣️💚 At Green Arrow Co-Lab, we understand that for many of our community members, “fight or flight” isn’t just a temporary state—it’s been a way of life. 🤕

🗓️ Years of navigating hyper-controlled, high-stress environments leave a lasting imprints 🐾on the nervous system. You can’t simply “will” yourself out of a physiological response. That’s why our Earth and liberation fellowship and gardening classes exist.

🌉 We use this practice to bridge the gap between survival and stability. By integrating somatic tools and mindfulness , we help you retrain your body to recognize safety, expand your window of tolerance, and reclaim your green power. 🌿✨

🍂❄️ As we end the year, we at Green Arrow are reminded that this is a time of Rest, Gratitude, and Renewal. During the fall, the land has called us back to balance. We took a moment to honor the harvest within our Green Arrow family and to recognize the hard work our young adults have accomplished—not only in the food grown but also in the wisdom gained, the relationships strengthened, and the care provided across our sites.

🍁🍃Our classrooms have been transformed into gardens and sacred outdoor spaces, allowing us to explore alternative methods that connect us to the earth and all its relations. This year, we expressed our gratitude for those who participated—the hands that showed up, the elders and youth who shared their knowledge, and the land that has supported us through another cycle.

🫜🌱 We especially appreciate the opportunity given to work with our young elementary students to engage with the earth and break cycles that have kept both children and adults away from green spaces. A big thank you to Andrew’s elementary school for trusting us with the important responsibility of sharing our knowledge of green practices and mindfulness with the next generation.

🪾🍁As we entered the Winter Solstice, we witnessed significant growth and outreach to various locations, including the Huntington Library. There, we partnered with .aura.landscaping and successfully completed the second phase of another cohort.

🌅❄️At the , we witnessed the power of community, as fellow graduates and other Green Arrow teachers came together to nurture these relationships and our community garden.

We recognized the importance of slowing down as part of our practice, understanding that taking care of ourselves is essential to caring for our community and the land.

🌧️❄️From harvest to rest, Green Arrow Colab closes this year grounded in gratitude, guided by memory, and preparing for the next return of light. ☀️

💚✨⬇️The year began with a sense of imbalance as wildfires impacted our regions. Nevertheless, we continued our classes at all our sites as much as possible and began to establish our roots in El Sereno, reconnecting with the soil with intention.

🫜☀️As we welcomed the Spring Equinox, we planted seeds—both literal and spiritual—across multiple locations, honoring the land as a teacher and the community as a source of healing.

🌺 The 580 cafe community garden, with the assistance of UCLA’s center for community engagement, that quarterly allowed us to work with 10 students. We were able to turn an old parking lot into a full thriving garden that grows herbs, vegetables, native plants, and has become a place or serenity and peace for both students and system-impacted community

🌼The Earth and Liberation Fellowship launched earlier in the year, recognizing the need for young people and adults in our communities to access green spaces. Through our ongoing care of the El Sereno Community Garden, we tended the garden, listened to the community, and built relationships. Grateful to have been part of such a meaningful culmination and the start of many more gardening and mindfulness stewards.

🌷The New Village Girls Academy garden is flourishing, and we’re so excited to see Emmanuel, Megha, and the girls enthusiastically kick off their amazing hydroponic garden project together! It’s a wonderful journey ahead!

🌻As we moved toward the Summer Solstice, the longest days called us into fuller visibility. Under the sun, our work expanded—gardens grew, young people learned, and communities gathered in shared labor and shared purpose.

🍉 At the ARC Magnolia House, participants are actively tending to the garden that previous youth had started. 👩🏽‍🏫👨🏽‍🏫 Under the guidance of our lead garden and mindfulness teachers, Stephen and Slema, we are creating a lasting green relationship with the youth coming home from incarceration.

💚 These seasons reminded us that when we move in alignment with the earth, abundance follows.

🌱✨New site, new seeds planted 🌱✨

We’re so excited to introduce one of Green Arrows newest garden class locations-where our little learners are already grounding, growing, and glowing.

Huge shoutout to our amazing teachers Selma and Becky for leading with so much heart.❤️

🌱 Each week they guide students through garden lessons, mindfulness, and somatic practices like:

• Breathing with gentle neck movement to release tension and wake up the cervical spine

• Loosening the arms with circles and shakes to free the upper body.

• Lion’s Breath - deep inhale, big “roar” exhale — to support emotional release, nerve stimulation, and vocal cord relaxation.

Teaching elementary age students these practices early plants more than flowers... it plants resilience, connection, and a deeper love for the earth. 🌿💛

with care

🌱 Introducing The Cultivators — our monthly giving circle - rooted in care, earth-connection, and collective growth.

👏Your ongoing support helps nourish healing-centered gardens for young people impacted by systemic harm.

Without this program our participants have shared they they would not have:
💕“Reconnected and built a deeper relationship with my mother.”
❤️‍🩹“Learned how to grieve the loss of my brother in a healthy way, vs only seeking revenge.”
🌄“Understood the connection between our land and my heritage and ancestors.”
🥒“Grown a passion for gardening and feeding my family! Now I’m looking to change my career pathway based on the cultivation skills I’ve learned.”

🌲Help us reach our goal of $3,000/month by Giving Tuesday.
