EnrichLA EnrichLA: An edible garden in every Los Angeles school!

We believe that all children and young adults, regardless of economic status, have the right to first class public education in a healthy and inspiring environment. To that effect, our purpose is to assist public schools to enrich the learning experience (increase the amount of green spaces on campus) by building edible gardens and other green spaces for the benefit of all students and the surrounding community, and by staffing them and endowing related programs.

🌽 It was a GREAT day for corn at Calabash Elementary! 🌽

Yesterday was harvest day, and our TK and Kindergarten students got to experience the magic of growing their own food!

Students learned about the different parts of a corn plant, observed the ears up close, harvested the corn, and measured just how tall the plants had grown — an incredible 9 feet tall! 😲🌽 They even helped prep the harvest and got to taste the fruits (or should we say kernels!) of their labor.

Even indoors, the excitement was through the roof — literally! The corn reached the ceiling! Ranger Tracy made the day even more memorable by creating a fun corn song, with everyone acting out the different parts of the plant. Students finished by coloring pictures of corn or sketching their own creations. 🎨🌱

From planting to harvesting to tasting, this is what hands-on garden education is all about: connecting kids to their food, exploring science, getting creative, and having FUN!

A big shout-out to Ranger Tracy and our curious little gardeners for making it such a memorable day! 💚

What a perfect way to bring our lesson, “Farm to Table to Farm,” to life. 🌿

The students made these adorable little seed pouches and wrote planting instructions on pretty paper tags.

The kids and office staff loved them—and many took some home to plant.

We grew it.
We saved it.
We shared it.
And now… we’re growing it again. 🌱

That’s the garden cycle in action. 💚

And just like that… Garden Class is back! 🌱

The first week of our Garden Program is already blooming with curiosity, discovery, and deliciousness!

From a bountiful harvest… 🥕🌿
to getting up close with nature and investigating the garden with magnifying glasses… 🔍

Our students are learning that the garden is a classroom full of wonders—there’s always something new to see, smell, touch, and taste.

And of course, we always end with a little garden-to-table goodness!

Here’s to another year of growing, learning, tasting, and getting our hands dirty! 🌱

You guys… this garden is SHOWING OUT! 🍉

Fifteen watermelons sprawling across the garden, soaking up the summer sun and getting bigger by the day. 🍉🍉🍉

And the best part? The students are coming back today and will see what their garden has been growing while they were away. ❤️

Now the big question… WHO’S READY FOR HARVEST DAY?! 🍉🙌🏽

Nothing beats sharing the harvest! 🌿🍅

Our garden at West Vernon Elementary is producing, and we were excited to share some of the fresh harvest with the amazing LA’s BEST teachers. Thank you for all you do to create a fun, safe, and enriching environment for students throughout the summer. We hope you enjoy these fresh garden goodies—you’ve earned them! 💚🥬

Just one week after installation, the new garden at Saturn Elementary is already growing strong! 🌱 The school has begun sharing flyers with families and community members, and garden classes start this September. Building gardens, growing community, and creating outdoor classrooms—this is how we do it! 🌻
