For the first time ever, Street Fighter is introducing a Filipina fighter: Yasmine.

According to the game’s official profile, Yasmine is a high school student and martial artist who enters the World Warrior Tournament in search of her missing kuya. Armed with a crescent-shaped karambit knife, she uses a fast, dance-like fighting style passed down by her lolo.

Inspired by Filipino culture and identity, Yasmine’s debut is a major milestone for representation in one of the most iconic video game franchises in history. For generations of Filipino gamers, seeing ourselves reflected in global media matters—and moments like this remind us how far we’ve come.

🎮 Are you a Street Fighter fan? Who was your main character growing up?

🪀 Happy National Yo-Yo Day!

Today we’re spotlighting a Filipino pioneer whose impact is still felt nearly a century later.

In 1928, Pedro Flores founded the first successful yo-yo manufacturing company in the United States, helping transform the toy from a simple pastime into a cultural phenomenon. His innovations popularized many of the tricks and techniques that yo-yo enthusiasts still use today.

As the yo-yo’s popularity grew, entrepreneur Donald Duncan purchased Flores’ company and expanded the brand nationwide, helping launch the yo-yo into mainstream American culture. But it was Pedro Flores who laid the foundation and sparked the movement that made it all possible.

It’s one of those fascinating stories that reminds us how Filipinos have shaped culture, innovation, and entrepreneurship in ways many people never realize.

🇵🇭 Filipino innovation. Global impact.

Happy National Yo-Yo Day!
