Today is a pretty special day for Air Supply! ⭐️🎶

After 50 years of timeless music, Air Supply receives the 2,859th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today, honoring their incredible legacy in music.

As of the year 2000, I have lived in the U.S. longer than I have lived in the Philippines.

I still don’t use Filipino American for myself. To me, “American” is a nationality. I was on some type of visa before I became a legal permanent resident and eventually a citizen (it took 19 years, folks).

Whether I use the term or not, I am very much Filipino American now —it’s an identity forged out of my lived experience here in America. And like many immigrants, whether first gen, second gen, and so forth, some part of us will always occupy an in-between space.

October is Filipino American History Month. I have created a lot of posts over the years that highlight Filipino & Filipino American stories and I’ll continue to do so all year round. On a pinned post, I highlighted Filipino Women Writers —an even longer list.

Consider this less of a reading list and more of a Filipino American starter pack. Some books fit in more than one category and I tried to include books that I don’t always see in the algorithm. I have featured other books in the past as well. This list is not exhaustive. I hope you check out a book from this guide and come back to tell me what you think.

A new landmark honoring Los Angeles’ Filipino American community has officially been unveiled in Panorama City.

On October 1, the City of Los Angeles dedicated the intersection of Roscoe Boulevard and Woodman Avenue as Kapwa Square, recognizing the longstanding presence and contributions of the Filipino community in Panorama City and throughout the San Fernando Valley.

The designation was championed by Councilmembers Imelda Padilla and Ysabel Jurado, who introduced the motion in 2025. The dedication was held on the first day of Filipino American History Month.

The name Kapwa comes from a core Filipino value centered on shared identity, interconnectedness, and recognizing ourselves in one another. The area has long been a hub for Filipino businesses, organizations, families, and community life in the San Fernando Valley.

The dedication featured Filipino cultural performances, community leaders, and a resource fair, marking an important moment of visibility and recognition for the Filipino community in Los Angeles.

Kapwa Square now stands as a permanent reminder of the Filipino history and community that helped shape the San Fernando Valley. 🇵🇭

SoCal Filipinos and D*Kababayan came together TODAY for our Orange County screening of Forgotten Island at AMC 30 in Orange, where we took over not one, but TWO auditoriums! 🎬🇵🇭

It was incredible seeing our community come together to support a film that celebrates Filipino culture, folklore, mythology, and Filipino talent on the big screen.
