On Sunday, May 3rd, the Bulgarian community of Los Angeles and Orange County came together for a vibrant and memorable celebration of culture, tradition, and connection.

The Bulgarian-American Cultural Educational Society of California (BACES), in cooperation with Bulgarian Education and Culture Society Pchela, was honored to host Gergiovden at the park, an event filled with energy, pride, and shared heritage.

Our wonderful MCs, Kalin Krumov and Ivan Rangelov, guided us through a dynamic program featuring unforgettable performances by Mariana Popzlateva; Ivan and Tzvetanka Varimezovi; the talented children of the Bulgarian School in Los Angeles; and dance group Xorotroptzi. Their dedication and spirit brought Bulgarian traditions to life in the most inspiring way.

Our youngest guests were treated to a delightful magic show and face painting provided by Ekaterina Markova. We were also deeply honored by the presence and address of the Consul General of Bulgaria in Los Angeles, Boyko Hristov, whose words reminded us of the importance of preserving our cultural roots abroad.

No celebration is complete without great food, and we are incredibly grateful to Mario Velinov and Velina Djambazova for the delicious offerings, as well as to Mariela Ivanova for the exquisite gourmet cookies that added an extra touch of sweetness to the day.

We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to our incredible volunteers, whose hard work made this event possible. A special thank you to Lidia McClune, Veselka Vasileva, Slavenka Pavlova - Juja, Lina Todorova, Ivan Gadelev, Venci Iskrenov, Plamen Petkov, and Penka Zlateva. BACES is proud to announce “Ambassadors of Bulgarian Heritage” Scholarship

The scholarship is dedicated to empowering young Bulgarians who are passionate about celebrating and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Bulgaria.

This scholarship seeks applicants who not only take pride in their Bulgarian identity but are actively committed to deepening global understanding of our traditions, history, language, and values. Whether through academic projects, community outreach, creative expression, digital media, or cultural exchange, we welcome students who demonstrate a clear vision and concrete actions toward sharing the story of Bulgaria with the world.

Through this scholarship, we aim to support individuals who see themselves as bridges between Bulgaria and the world—those who understand that identity is not only inherited but actively shaped.
