We are deeply saddened by the passing of Tony Fanara, the longtime owner of Palermo and a beloved member of our community.

For decades, Tony welcomed neighbors, families, and visitors with warmth and generosity, helping make Palermo a true neighborhood institution. His support for Franklin Hills extended far beyond the walls of his restaurant—he was a dedicated champion of our community and the only recipient of FHRA’s Lifetime Membership.

Tony never hesitated to lend a hand, regularly donating pizzas to our biannual block parties and helping fuel the fun, connection, and sense of community that make these gatherings so special.

Tony’s kindness, civic spirit, and commitment to bringing people together left a lasting mark on Franklin Hills and Los Feliz. He will be deeply missed.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Tony’s family, friends, and the entire Palermo team. Thank you, Tony, for everything you gave to our neighborhood ♥️

One of our favorite Franklin Hills traditions! Several times a year, FHRA volunteers climb ladders, swap out the bridge decor and help the Shakespeare Bridge reflect the changing seasons and moments that bring us together.

This morning, the team gathered to display American flags ahead of Independence Day. Thanks to everyone who came out to lend a hand - and to the neighbors who make caring for this special landmark a true community effort.

Our annual Spring Fling Block Party over the (recent) years! The community celebration has grown to become a not-to-be-missed event 😎 Join us this Saturday, May 16 from 1pm - 5pm on Radio St btwn Franklin Ave & Ronda Vista Dr for this year’s FHRA Spring Fling Block Party! FREE food, drink, wine, crafts, bounce house, live music & a chance to have fun with your neighbors. All ages welcome 🎸🍿🍷🍕

This edition honors the 100th Anniversary
of the Shakespeare Bridge.

The Overview is a community effort - created by neighbors who contribute their writing, photography, and editing talents. We’re also grateful to the local advertisers whose support helps make each issue possible. All 2,400 copies are hand-delivered to residences by volunteers.
