Today is the final day of Dr. Crystal Lee's Birthday Fundraiser, and we want to close it out the way we mean it: with a real thank you.
To everyone who donated, shared, commented, or simply took a moment to care, you are the reason this community keeps growing. Meet AJ Johnson (they/them) 💛 one of the brilliant, liberation-centered clinicians in our community who is doing the deep, transformative work our people deserve. (AMFT #161165, supervised by Jessica Hernandez, LCSW #113712) — a neurodivergent, multi-racial, q***r, non-binary clinician working out of Empowered Mind Therapy Center in the San Francisco East Bay, where they specialize in trauma therapy for neurodivergent, trans, and q***r people of color. ✨

AJ's words stop us in our tracks:

"Traditional models of therapy locate problems within people rather than acknowledging the role of larger contexts. In doing so, the mental health field has perpetuated harm — often pathologizing valid responses to structural oppression and marginalization. Having racially and ethnically diverse clinicians who are liberation-centered and anti-oppressive in their practice is essential to shifting the field beyond individualizing distress and toward transforming systems, so that care actually supports our collective healing and liberation."

This is the heart of why representation in our field is not just meaningful — it is necessary. This is also why increasing racial and ethnic diversity in psychology is central to our mission at Psychologists of Color, Inc. The field cannot serve our communities well until it reflects and honors them.

"Cultural humility isn't a destination. It's a practice."

If you're training to become a school psychologist, you already know the field needs more of us. But what does it actually look like to build cultural humility into your training, not as a checkbox, but as an ongoing commitment to growth and self-awareness?

A new article in School Psychology International explores exactly that. "Cultural Humility: Considerations for Training School Psychologists of Color" by Anabel Vega Meyer and Emily N. Srisarajivakul centers the experiences of psychologists of color in training environments and examines how positionality shapes the work we do with students, families, and systems.

At Psychologists of Color, Inc., we believe every barrier between our community and licensure deserves a closer look. That's why we're sharing this research study, which explores the experiences of psychologists and trainees of color with the EPPP. If you're eligible and willing, your participation could help generate the data our field needs to create more equitable pathways to licensure.

Participants Needed for an Anonymous Online Research Study

A doctoral researcher is currently recruiting participants for a dissertation study examining the EPPP and its relationship to the experiences of psychologists of color. Your voice matters, and studies like this one move us closer to the systemic change we've been advocating for.

Who is eligible to participate? You may qualify if you:
Identify as a psychologist or psychology trainee of color
Have taken the EPPP or are currently preparing for it
Are 18 years of age or older
Meet any additional criteria outlined in the study survey
How to participate: The survey is anonymous, takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed via the link in our bio or below.
