Big News! We are pleased to share this important update about the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Abode at Glassell Park land in Walnut Canyon.

Almost six years ago the Los Angeles Planning Department started the draft phase of the EIR. Last week they finally arrived at a determination.

The planning department has terminated this EIR, citing various inconsistencies that remain unresolved. This means that the owners are not allowed to proceed with any construction on this land under the current EIR. You can view the complete termination letter on the planning website (link in bio).

We are relieved that any imminent opportunity to build on this land has now been prohibited. We are focusing all our energies on seeking funding from State, County and City sources to purchase this land from the owners for preservation as public open space. We’re appreciative that the owners remain willing sellers.

The appraisal that is currently being coordinated by the office of Councilmember Gil Cedillo is underway and is now scheduled to be completed by the end of September.

Again, we thank everyone in the community and the officials and agencies who have been so supportive of preserving Walnut Canyon as open space for all communities to treasure.

We'll have more updates soon. Follow us on social media for ongoing information - and for ways you can help protect the canyon.
