It’s almost time to do it again.🔥 and today we have an opportunity for 3 people to get their registration for FREE!

The next stop in our 2026 Friendship Tournament Series is coming up this September, and we want to see our teams show up ready.

📲 Share the second slide with the registration QR code and tag 3 people in comments — 1 coach + 2 students you want to see compete!

• Winner will be selected this Sunday, August 23rd.

Competition gives you something regular training can’t fully recreate. The nerves. The pressure. Having to trust your Jiu Jitsu when someone across from you wants the same win you do.

But you’re never doing it by yourself.

Your coaches are on the sidelines. Your teammates are behind you. And every match—win or lose—gives us something to take back to the academy and work on.

🍂 FALL FRIENDSHIP TOURNAMENT
📅 Saturday, September 19, 2026

If you’ve been thinking about competing, this is your sign. Share for your chance at a free registration!! If you competed with us last time, it’s time to see what’s changed.

One competitor on the mat. A whole team behind them.

A promotion in adult jiu jitsu isn’t just about technique. It’s about every early morning, every late night, every moment you almost didn’t come in but did anyway.

Recently we celebrated the adults who make East LA Jiu Jitsu what it is. Their dedication sets the tone for everyone who walks through our doors.

Congratulations to all of our promoted adults. The mat has changed you — and you have changed this community. 🤍

On Friday July 17th, our students showed up and showed out.

New belts. New stripes. New chapters.

There is nothing quite like watching a kid realize what they are capable of. That moment when their coach ties that belt around their waist and they look up — that’s why we do this.

Congratulations to everyone who was promoted. The mat has made you stronger, and you’ve made this community better. Keep going.

Want to help more kids experience moments like these? Support our mission through the link in our bio. Every contribution keeps a deserving kid on the mat. 🤍

East LA and Boyle Heights Jiu Jitsu would like to extend a big thank you to Chris and Melina Hann for sharing the mats with us!

Chris and Melina connected with us for the first time at our 2026 Gala, where we discovered a common love for Jiu Jitsu and serving others. Recently, the Hann’s were kind enough to come visit both of our gyms. They shared some wisdom about life and business with our students, and served as great mentors to answer any questions. Chris, who trains at 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu in Orange, also taught the teens and adult class.

Thank you so much Chris and Melina for pouring into our students. This is how we change the world together, and we hope to have you both back soon!

One final reflection on an unforgettable night.
Four years ago Ron Mukai opened one door in East LA. Then another in Boyle Heights. What started as a single mat has grown into something none of us could have predicted — because of you.
Different parts of our ELAJJ family joined from all over to celebrate that journey. Board members, coaches, staff, donors, volunteers, and families — each one of you carrying a piece of this mission forward.
What we’ve built together in four years is extraordinary. And we’re only just getting started.

To our students and families — you are the reason we show up every single day. You give this mission its purpose.

To our board of directors — thank you for your wisdom, your guidance, and your unwavering belief in what we are building here.

To our staff and coaches — thank you for pouring yourselves into this nonprofit every day, for striving for greatness, and for growing something truly special.

To our donors — your generosity has allowed us to expand our vision beyond what we ever thought possible. Thank you for continuing to believe in us.

To our volunteers — you came from far and wide to make this night run seamlessly from the very first setup to the very last cleanup. We could not have done it without you.

Until next year. We are so grateful for this community and cannot wait to show you everything we will accomplish between now and our next Gala. The best is yet to come. 🤍

Days like today remind us why we do what we do.

Watching students who once walked through our doors with no experience now earning new belts and stripes is something we’ll never take for granted. Every promotion tells a different story, but they all have one thing in common: consistency.

Congratulations to every student who was promoted today. Keep learning, stay humble, and enjoy the journey.
