Yesterday's service at 4th and Towne is dedicated to my cousin Gary Davis, who passed away after a short illness on March 31st. Gary was one of the first paramedics, ever, was a veteran of the armed services and is survived by his children and his lovely wife Margie. They donated repeatedly to Lov Kitchen and yesterday, Gary's memory fed over a hundred folks. The menu was Gumbo over rice, broccoli, roasted radish, cole slaw, salad with honey mustard dressing and home made corn bread with butter peach drizzle.

Rest in peace, cousin. The world was a better place because you were in it. You and my dad were besties and his heavenly birthday was your graduation day, so I know he was there to meet you and help you on to whatever is next for your beautiful soul. Your legacy will live on through your family...

I just have to give a huge shout out to Flintridge Prep who has now been consistently donating their leftovers to Lov Kitchen for the last month and change. Huge trays of all manner of delicious prepared foods, mostly proteins (the expensive stuff!) have cut down on the time and effort I have to devote to the charity now. I feel like this model of donating at the end of the week is a real win win. It certainly has shifted the internal paradigm and has made doing what I do nearly effortless and nearly free. Compared to how much I was doing when this charity started, it feels like I'm able to offer so much more while doing so much less, for so much less. I'm so thankful to them for all they're doing for the skid row community. This is community symbiosis. Let's GO!

This week Lov Kitchen is going to foster the LOV of vegetables! We're going to make "Big Bad Buddha Bowls!" with roasted cauliflower, kale, beets, butternut squash, shredded cabbage over rice and quinoa with avocado sour cream sauce. We'll have side salads and gorgeous Roan Bakery bread to accompany our mega healthy offering this coming weekend.

Wish me luck, folks. I'm about to go in to the City of Burbank recycling offices and give a talk to a bunch of community folks on how best we might implement SB 1383 and effectively rescue, repurpose and distribute food that would otherwise go into landfills. I'm not sure why they think I know what I'm doing, but I'm going to tell them the story of Lov Kitchen and Lov LOV Movement and see if I can't help my city be the change I want to see in the world.

No one needs to go hungry.

Don't feel like cooking this holiday season? Need to bring something impressive to a holiday potluck? Well, I'm making a batch of my somewhat famous Lov Kitchen Lasagnas to take one more thing off your holiday to-do list!

Meat or cheese lasagnas offered in
half tray size (feeds 12-15) for $75, add $15 for gluten free
full tray (feeds 24-30) for $150, add $25 for gluten free

These will be fully cooked and cooled or frozen depending on your preference (they will not be hot at time of pick up, so please plan two to three days to thaw in the refrigerator before reheating). All you do is thaw and reheat. Instructions will be included. Pick up from Burbank ONLY starting Monday, Dec 18th.

One last hot lunch service before we convert our offering to a Farmer's Market approach and I'm enjoying the epic process of this grande finale. Smoked ribs and chicken, baked potato, vegan stewed greens, corn on the cob, roasted jalapenos, roasted tomatoes, mascerated stone fruit, salad and rolls- phew!!!
