Join SASE on Wednesday, August 25 at 4pm EST / 1pm PST for our next webinar with Jeanny Chai from Bamboo Myth, Inc.

While the perception of the Bamboo Ceiling has spurred increased awareness of the need for more diverse leadership within corporations, the reality is that individual professionals must take greater ownership of our career and leadership design to achieve the success we desire.

In this provocative program, Jeanny Chai acknowledges the cultural experiences unique to professionals of Asian heritage and the gender trainings women carry, and she reveals how those experiences impact (1) how high you can rise in your career or leadership and (2) the personal fulfillment you enjoy in the process.

BambooMyth.com Founder, coach & speaker, Jeanny Chai helps Asian American women find their worth from within and “Live Their Leadership Potential” by reframing the cultural priorities that have been given to us. She believes that breaking through the Bamboo Ceiling is an internal quest and only by thinking differently that we can create a new norm.

In this Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we recognize and appreciate the Asian Americans who are part of the aerospace community for their many contributions, including AIAA Journal Editor-In-Chief, and Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Purdue University, Tom Shih, Ph.D. https://aerospaceamerica.aiaa.org/bulletin/january-2021-aiaa-bulletin/

He was born in Taiwan and at age nine moved to the USA with his mother and sister to join his father who just earned his Ph.D. He grew up in Morgantown, WV and found his multi-cultural background first learning about America and China as the only Chinese student in the class. He started his university studies at West Virginia University but finished his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Taiwan after his parents moved back. Learning about America and China again in Taiwan—this time as the only American in the class—helped him better understand different perspectives and become more aware of his own unconscious biases. We are grateful for Dr. Shih’s contributions to our community and celebrate his achievements in the aerospace industry.

Shih’s past honors include the 2020 AIAA Thermophysics Award, the 2015 AIAA Energy Systems Award, and the 2010 AIAA Sustained Service Award. Also, he is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Currently, Shih is a member of the NASA Advisory Council – Aeronautics Committee and serves on the Review Board of the Collaborative Center for Aeronautical Sciences of the Air Force Research Laboratory. Shih also chairs the AIAA Committee on Higher Education and is a member of the AIAA Committee on Standards for Computational Fluid Dynamics and the AIAA Ethics Committee.
