In March, our organization turned five years old 🎉

We celebrated every effort and evolution by doing what we love most: Going out and talking to our community members and offering them resources. This time, since the South Bay has experienced so much heat lately, one of our board members brought a special treat — popsicles. We found that our four-legged friends especially enjoyed the refreshment.

As we move into this fifth year of Wilmington and the greater area, our volunteer leadership continues to explore the possibilities and partnerships available to us to best show up for our neighbors. If you have suggestions, or want to get involved, send us a message.

Thank you to all who have supported Hungry to Help’s journey. We couldn’t do this without you. ❤️

It’s encouraging to see members of our community being connected to temporary shelter during the many sweeps that have been happening all over Los Angeles.

At the same time, many of our undocumented neighbors are left without access to the same resources and are forced to navigate this crisis on their own.

We will continue to show up, consistently and compassionately, to ensure no one is overlooked or left behind, despite their status. Our commitment is to every member of our community, especially those who are most vulnerable.

If you’re looking for ways to give back or get involved, our DMs are always open!

We know many of our neighbors are feeling the impact of a lack of federal resources, making times tougher than usual. That’s why beginning this week Hungry to Help is opening our food pantry to the local community.

Over the years, Yusen Terminal has graciously sponsored us for their annual Health & Safety Fair! We are so grateful for their continued partnership! Here’s a look back at some amazing memories. We can’t wait to join this incredible event for the 4th year in a row!

Tune into our stories next Thursday to see us educate the longshoremen community on Narcan use!

We’re grateful for the opportunity to expand our outreach to the encampments in Wilmington, where we’re building rapport and trust with new community members. 🤝 We got to introduce ourselves and hear some of the community members stories. We plan to continue showing up with consistency, care, and compassion.

Lomita McCoy’s encampment has officially closed and we are happy to see our neighbors have been placed in local hotels through Project Roomkey 🏨. This is a big step toward stability and hope.

More to come soon!

Our second food drive of the year was an important example of how the work we do requires us to pivot to serve the population we love.

The day started normally: Our crew came together to make a nutritious meal and then met up with our awesome volunteers at a local park. When we caravanned over, we found that our main destination for distributing resources had been swept by authorities.

Lomita/McCoy was an encampment where some community members stayed for months at a time, allowing us to build rapport and trust to connect them to services they need. We hope that as many of the people who relied on our events as possible have been placed in housing that supports them. We pray for their well-being.

We had more than 20 hot meals in the car and still wanted to help our neighbors, so we drove around the area and distributed them to individual tents. We are grateful we could still connect with our community.

At this time, Hungry to Help needs dog and cat food and cases of water. If you are able to donate in person or via our Amazon wishlist, it would mean the world to us and our neighbors as we try to figure out our game plan for serving the unhoused in the South Bay given the clearance of a main encampment.

As always, thank you for allowing us to do what we love to do: Help.

We know that this community has been impacted in a variety of ways due to the ongoing wildfires. This includes the unhoused population, which is why we are going to continue ahead with this month’s food drive.

This Friday, Jan. 18 we will be out in the South Bay distributing warm meals, hygiene kits, and providing basic health care offerings like blood pressure readings.

Do you want to help through volunteering? We’d love to have you. DM us or fill out the form at hungrytohelpca.org/volunteer.

Finishing up some last-minute holiday shopping? Us too, it’s okay.

When checking your list this year, consider adding our unhoused neighbors. Even a little bit of generosity goes a long way.

We have a variety of products that we can offer to or use to serve those we visit in encampments on a regular basis. Visit the link in our bio to check out our Amazon wishlist. ❤️

Thank you for another great Health and Safety Fair Yusen Terminal! We had a blast sharing our mission and doing over 50 Narcan certifications🙏. We sincerely thank Yusen for continuing to make us their non-profit of choice for their fundraising initiative🫶🏽
Huge shoutout to the hundreds of longshoremen that came out and donated enough food to last us through 2025! We are so thankful 💛💛💛
