Today, we proudly held our inaugural listening session as part of a groundbreaking initiative supported by the JAMS Foundation and the National Association for Community Mediation (NAFCM). We are honored to be one of five community mediation centers nationwide selected to receive funding for a year-long dialogue on hate crime and violence.

We invited LMU and LLS colleagues, community members, conflict resolution practitioners, and advocates of restorative justice and peace building to exchange best practices, share vital research, and collaborate on strategies to combat hate speech and violence.

Their insights will help us identify resources and build networks that empower our communities to become conflict competent. Let’s work together to amplify our impact!

For more than 30 years, the Loyola Center for Conflict Resolution (LCCR) has been an alternative resource for conflict resolution for marginalized and underserved communities in Los Angeles County, regardless of their ability to pay. This includes people who have suffered systemic discrimination in the judicial system.

LCCR supports people seeking options for resolving disputes outside of court. This is done via face-to-face interpersonal interaction to encourage communication and repair relationships. LCCR assists non-English speaking parties, undocumented immigrants, individuals with disabilities, veterans, and families by removing language barriers and implementing procedures that lessen biases against them.

The LCCR creates a safe space that allows participants to reach durable agreements by helping them evaluate their options (legal and non-legal) and empowering them to decide what works best for them. This equips parties to make informed decisions and frees up the courts to deal with cases that necessitate judicial involvement. It is a win-win.

LCCR Celebrates 30th Anniversary with Banner Year!
• Served more than 2,000 participants

• Resolved over 500 disputes in our three clinics

• Conducted three 30-hour mediation training sessions

• Completed more than 120 Options Counseling Sessions in landlord/tenant and consumer/debtor issues

• Contributed 4,300 hours of community service via clinical student work

As the oldest social justice law clinic at Loyola Law School, LCCR is dedicated to providing essential mediation and conciliation services to those who have nowhere else to turn. Your support today will help us broaden access to justice for communities across Los Angeles that need it most.

“At LCCR, I’ve learned how to mediate and solve disputes between parties. It’s taught me how to think on my feet and how to [look at a conflict from both sides] as a third-party neutral.” – Alex Nogherian, J.D. ’26

Thank you making a gift to LCCR! Together, we can empower our students and serve our community.

Participating in a day that observes peaceful conflict resolution is a meaningful way to contribute to a culture of peace and understanding. Here are some ideas to engage in this observance:

1. Educate Yourself and Others
- Workshops and Seminars: Attend or organize workshops on conflict resolution techniques, mediation, and effective communication.
- Reading and Discussion Groups: Start or join a book club focused on literature about peace, conflict resolution, and social Justice

2. Volunteer for Peace Initiatives
- Local Organizations: Volunteer for organizations that focus on peacebuilding, mediation, or social justice.
- Mentorship Programs: Get involved in mentorship programs that support youth in developing conflict resolution skills.

3. Practice Peaceful Conflict Resolution in Daily Life
- Model Behavior: In your own interactions, strive to approach conflicts with empathy, active listening, and a willingness to understand differing perspectives.
- Seek Common Ground: In disagreements, focus on finding common interests and values to bridge divides.

4. Engage in Creative Expressions of Peace
- Art and Music: Create or participate in artistic projects that promote messages of peace and harmony.
- Social Media Campaigns: Use social platforms to share stories, quotes, and resources related to peaceful conflict resolution.

5. Celebrate Peace
- Community Events: Organize or attend events such as peace marches, vigils, or cultural festivals that celebrate diversity and unity.
- Recognition of Peacemakers: Acknowledge and honor individuals or groups in your community who have made significant contributions to peacebuilding efforts.

By participating in these activities, you can help foster an environment that values peaceful conflict resolution and encourages others to do the same. Together, we can contribute to a more harmonious world.
