My dear brothers, and sisters

I wish I could say I didn’t see this coming, but I did.

I hope this doesn’t upset you I hope it motivates you. I hope it reminds you why it’s so important for us to come together and create our own narrative. We are the storytellers. God has gifted us with the ability to tell stories, through every thing that we do, from fashion music, art, acting, etc. He has placed us in the storytelling business for a reason.

I’m about to do what I do best and shoot a short film that makes a statement one that shows the world just a glimpse of what they continue to miss whenever ignorance and pure hate like this is thrown at us.

The violence that was necessary in 1804 to make our statement isn’t what is needed today. Today, we make our statement with our voices, our talent, our art, and by showing the world that we are not to be fu**ed with. We keep moving forward no matter what.

I’m going to create something that, even if only two people see it, those two people will never forget what they saw. And maybe they’ll tell two more. That’s how change begins.

But besides that, I hope you also use this as motivation.

I honestly couldn’t even get mad after watching that video because yesterday I stood in a stadium with over 30,000 Haitians singing our national anthem. I watched the Grenadiers fight the way they always do with heart, pride, and courage in front of the world.

It refueled my Dessalines bloodline. It reminded me exactly who I am and where I come from. It gave me a level of pride that not even a nuclear bomb could destroy.

So please, stand tall.

Be proud.

And scream that s**t from your chest…
