Lead Free Homes LA-Outreach and Enrollment

Lead Free Homes LA-Outreach and Enrollment Many children across the United States are still exposed to lead. Older homes, especially those built before 1978, are more likely to have lead in the paint.

In Los Angeles County, 76% of the homes were built before 1978, putting many families and children at risk of lead poisoning. Lead-based paint is the most common way that children in Los Angeles County are exposed to lead. However, there are many other sources of lead that can be found in and around the home that put children at risk.

πŸ₯¦ It’s Lead Awareness Week! πŸ₯•
Did you know that healthy eating can help protect your family from lead exposure?

Foods rich in calcium, iron, and vitamin C can help prevent lead from being absorbed into the body. πŸ₯›πŸ₯¬ 🍊

Calcium (found in milk, cheese, and yogurt) helps keep lead out of bones.

Iron (beans, lean meats, spinach) helps block lead from entering the bloodstream.

Vitamin C (oranges, tomatoes, bell peppers) helps your body absorb iron better.

Small changes at mealtime can make a big difference in keeping kids healthy and strong. πŸ’ͺ

Learn more about preventing lead poisoning and find resources at the Well Fed=Less Lead Health Fair, Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the MLK Community Healing and Trauma Prevention Center.
