Before I ever trained, I had three births.

One where I was treated as difficult for asking questions.

One where I held my ground mostly alone, years before anyone could find another way online.

And one at home, at peace, with my husband beside me.

Then I went and got the training. Certified doula, birth educator, and placenta specialist. A mentorship institute.

Teachers who know the system inside and out, and teachers who walked away from it.
And every family I’ve walked beside since.

That’s what I bring to the couples I mentor.

Yesterday I asked whose evidence your doula is using. Today, ask where everyone preparing you got theirs.

Your typical birth class teaches you how to be a good patient.

A DONA-trained doula was formed by that same hospital model of birth.

If both came from the system you already don’t trust, that’s the voice you’ll hear in your birth.

I’ve given birth inside that system, worked inside it, and trained under women who know it inside and out.

Then I walked out, for my own birth and for my work.
