A Beary Special Day!

Smiles, laughter, and furry new friends! 🐻This past Sunday, children with vision loss and their families enjoyed a special Build-A-Bear experience filled with creativity, connection, and fun!

🌿Exploring nature through every sense.

PPV returned to Bolsa Chica Conservancy for a special morning of hands-on discovery, connection, and time outdoors. From exploring animal textures through touch to discovering the wetlands along the trail, the day offered new ways to experience the world around us.

A special thank you to Bolsa Chica Conservancy for welcoming us and to the National Charity League, Peninsula Chapter volunteers who helped make the day meaningful. 💙

This World Sight Day, we’re celebrating the gift of sight and the people who help make brighter futures possible.

For children with vision loss, access to specialized eye care, adaptive tools, and ongoing support can make a meaningful difference in how they learn, explore, and experience the world around them.

Today’s is dedicated to Ann Daly, Visionary Sponsor of our 10th Anniversary Keeping Dreams in Sight event. Ann’s generous support helps Partners for Pediatric Vision continue creating opportunities for children and families to receive the resources, experiences, and support they need to thrive. At Austin's recent exam, he received a dome magnifier and slant board demonstrated by his Child & Family Specialist Mackenzie.

PPV Specialists take part in eye exams with eye doctors and demonstrate low vision devices to children like Austin thanks to support by generous donors like Ann.

Cheers to vision exams! 📣

Ximena has been getting her annual eye exams at our partner clinic Ketchum Health. The doctors at Ketchum University Eye Centers are thorough, patient and take the time to answer questions. PPV’s Specialists make sure that the eye exam findings and recommendations are shared with schools and providers to maximize learning success and help families monitor healthy vision. Ximena was wearing her cheerleading uniform and gave a shout out to the doctors at Ketchum Health!

A game made for everyone!

On September 20, thirteen Scouts from Rolling Hills Troop 783 spent the afternoon creating tactile tic-tac-toe boards for children and teens served by Partners for Pediatric Vision.

With guidance from Teacher of the Visually Impaired Keith Christian, the Scouts sanded, stained, and assembled each board with accessibility in mind. The matching pieces are attached with Velcro and feature shapes that can be identified by touch, making it possible for children with vision loss to play and connect with sighted friends, too.

We’re incredibly grateful to Troop 783, Monica Mittal, Susie and Mike McKinney, and Keith for bringing this thoughtful project to life. We look forward to continuing this partnership and creating even more accessible resources for children with vision loss!

💚 September is NICU Awareness Month, and today we’re honored to share a meaningful part of Mackenzie’s story.

Before becoming one of PPV’s Child & Family Vision Specialists, Mackenzie first connected with us through her son, Ethan. "Ethan spent time in the NICU and I know how overwhelming it can feel. PPV is where we found support and learned about his vision."

Today, Mackenzie uses her personal experience to help other families feel informed and supported on their child's journey.

PPV partners with Neonatologists including Dr. Kevin McKim at Providence Little Company of Mary in Torrance who are dedicated to coordinating care for their NICU graduates.

💜 ThankYouThursday 💜

Wendy relies on her white cane for mobility due to her diagnosis of optic atrophy, making it difficult for her to safely navigate...especially during evening walks with her family.

When Wendy’s white cane broke, mom reached out to PPV for help finding a replacement. Our Child & Family Vision Specialist was able to provide Wendy with a new white cane 🦯 so she could get back to navigating safely.

Thanks to the generosity of Song & David Klein, PPV can help Wendy and hundreds of children like her, continue exploring the world with greater confidence and independence.

Thank you, Song & David Klein, and all of our generous PPV donors for helping us keep kids in sight and supporting children with visual impairments every step of the way.
