On Saturday, May 30, the Earthlodge partnered with the Center Long Beach to host Remembering Our Roots: An LGBTQ+ Wellness Circle. The event was created in response to the 2025 Community Needs Assessment Report, which found that many LGBTQ+ people in Long Beach are looking for stronger community connections and a greater sense of belonging. Thirty-five people attended, many of them visiting the Earthlodge for the first time. Together, we shared stories, built relationships, and participated in activities focused on wellness, reflection, and community care.

The gathering also included a presentation on Black worker rights and labor organizing, creating space for conversations about history, justice, and collective power. The combination of healing, education, and community building made for a meaningful experience, and many participants shared that they would like to see more gatherings like this in the future.

Cynthia and Dean presented at the City of Long Beach's 1st Annual TGI Resource and Job Fair at the Billie Jean King Main Library. With over 100 job seekers in attendance, the event was a powerful testament to the community's needs.

We conducted an hour-long interactive Worker Rights and Wellness training. Notably, every attendee expressed that they had experienced workplace violations but did not know how to address them. In alignment with Earthlodge’s core belief that all workers deserve healthy, safe, and respectful environments, we concluded the session by emphasizing the collective strength of communities to foster their own healing.

Beautiful moments from Black Women Are Divine, a celebration of health and healing put on by Black Lives Matter Long Beach and hosted by Blu Arts and Wellness. Our founder Queen Hollins was honored! It was a sea of purple, as Black women all decked in their finest purple outfits, squeezed into the small Black-owned art gallery on the corner of Pine and 6th in DTLB.

When Queen stood up to receive her award, she exclaimed: "You know Black people love to look at each other!" And on Saturday, we collectively did not disappoint. Compliments and "oooh girl, look at you" could be heard in every corner. Everyone agreed that we need more of this.

Thank you for recognizing Queen Hollins as the National Treasure that she is.

We recognize May as Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, a time to honor the histories, cultures, and contributions of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders.

In the spirit of this month, we honor Láwû, aka Mango, a member of the Earthlodge community whose passing away in 2025 left a profound silence in the heart of Earthlodge, yet it also illuminated the enduring light that they brought into our community. Láwû was more than a friend or community member; they were the living embodiment of curiosity, generosity, and boundless love for all who crossed their path. Their wisdom transcended age and background, allowing them to connect effortlessly with youth, staff, volunteers, and the wider Earthlodge community. Through their presence we felt seen, heard, and deeply at home.

We remember Láwû with gratitude and carry their light forward.
