Some things live in the body long before we ever learn how to name them.

The pressure to be strong.
The questions we carry quietly.
The longing to understand where we come from, who came before us, and what they might say to us now.

Through our Drum Wellness Circle, in collaboration with the Women’s Leadership Project and Futures of Feminism, we gathered with a group of Black high school girls to create space for exactly that.

Together, we learned **Yeye**, a song used to call in the ancestors when we are searching for answers, guidance, strength, and hope.

And then the drums began.

As the rhythm moved through the circle, the young people reflected on the ancestors they wish they could know, the wisdom they want to inherit, and the parts of their lives that have asked them to grow up, hold it together, and be strong before they were ready.

This is why spaces like this matter.

Because Black girls deserve more than being told to be resilient.

They deserve places where they can soften.
Where they can ask questions.
Where they can be held by community.
Where they can remember that strength is not only about what you can carry alone.

At Earthlodge, we create spaces where young people can reconnect with who they are, remember where they come from, and experience the power of culture, community, and ancestral wisdom as sources of healing.

Sometimes healing begins with words.

And sometimes, it begins with a drum.

Ontario Womyn’s Drum Camp 2026, held in Ontario, Canada this summer, reflected the heart of Queen’s work unfolding across the world: gathering, remembering, teaching, transmitting, and creating spaces where ancestral wisdom can meet the realities of the present moment.

This year marked Queen’s 16th OWDC, sixteen years of serving as an elder, holding sacred space, carrying strong medicine, and helping create the conditions for deep transformation.

She also continues to teach dances such as **DunDunBa**, inviting us to move with the power of the ancestors and to carry that wisdom into the challenges, choices, and realities we face today.

This is more than preserving tradition. It is keeping ancestral knowledge alive, embodied, and in motion.

THIS WEEKEND: It's time to uplift the grounds as we transition into Autumnal Equinox Seasonal Ceremony happening this September. We'll focus on clearing out spent summer crops, preparing soil and garden beds with compost for next year's crops, and starting cool-season vegetables and winter-blooming flowers from seed or transplants. Avocados from our beautiful tree will be available to those who come and lend a hand! Worker Rights and Wellness Training will be conducted.

Black August was an amazing celebration of worker power! The Southern California Black Workers Hub invited the Earthlodge to create a vibrant wellness space, featuring hands-on stations for crafting aromatic sachets, bath salts, and refreshing spritzers infused with lavender, lemongrass, and sage.
