Pancakes getting labs, urinalysis and an exam by our internal med team to see how he’s tolerating his new meds and if they are having the positive effect we hope they are. We will update everyone when all his results come in. Today’s work up is $675. Please donate towards Latke’s care if you are able with our thanks and love.

We are over the moon to announce the last of the bird babies have left the nest! The best part is Finch & Flamingo were adopted together to a beautiful family full of all the energy and activity they are used to and love.

Thanks to for sharing them in your stories- because if her help networking someone else saw the puppies and sent them on to a friend looking for a new dog. When we did our phone interview, I asked if she would consider taking both flamingo and Finch since they didn’t have other dogs and they had become quite bonded being the last two of the litter. She said yes without hesitation and we were so happy about it.

Over the weekend I drove the babies up north to Sacramento to their new home. They have a wonderful mom, three human siblings, 3 cat siblings and a bearded dragon! Everyone in the house is in love with the puppies and they are settling in quickly and living their furever home! Finch is particularly fond of his new kitty friends. We are so grateful to and family for welcoming two PMR pups with live and kindness. They truly found the perfect home and it was well worth the wait.

We’ve never had fosters this long and that came in that young to adopt out. The change in energy and lack of their vivacious presence has been noticeable but I couldn’t be happier that they are in an active and loving home where they will get so much attention and affection. Two great bonuses to my trip were meeting up with my dear friend and rescue goddess Leslie from and a visit with Hazel .916 and her mom! It was a great trip filled with and signs.

A 10 second time lapse of a 90 second process we do 4-5 times a day. Hamburger Patty has mild spina bifida which means she doesn’t have full control over her bladder and bowels. I always said we would never do diaper dogs but here we are 3 years in with her and it’s so much easier than I had imagined…

Patty wears washable “fashion pants” with disposable liners when she’s inside to keep her and the house clean and fresh. We do lots of outside naked time to let her skin breathe and be free throughout the day. We express Patty several times daily which involves emptying her bladder and bowels by expressing her, wiping her down with baby wipes and putting on a fresh set up. Doing this keeps her in good hygiene, comfort and minimized UTIs which SB dogs are more prone to.

Latke Update

Watch for the full details and plan. I wanted to take a few days before posting to soak in the information myself. I’m also going to be honest- making these posts gives me anxiety and I would imagine other rescues and pet parents also experience this when sharing info about their medical and uniquely abled pets. Im always questioning what to share, how much to share, what people’s reactions are going to be, comments, messages telling us not to do something or try something else.

Here’s the bottom line. We have been Latke’s guardians and advocates his whole life. 51/2 years. I trust and have an incredible working relationship with our neurologists, internal specialist and general vets. Latke has a care team that is all on the same page and treating him with mindfulness of all the things that make him special from his hydro to seizures to digestion to heightened handling sensitivity from his blindness.

We do appreciate people sharing their experiences and knowledge about medical conditions for us to consider in a respectful way.

Latke’s albumin is very low but not yet critical. We are going to take things step by step to course correct this before we get onto a dangerous range, treat each day as a gift and love him every moment. Thanks for being here.

DJ Patches Update

On Friday Patches had his annual general exam with Dr. Chung and internal medicine check up with Dr. Townsell at Access South Bay. He has great reports at both exams. When your internal med vet says Patches is a miracle, you celebrate like crazy! While he is technically still in liver failure because of the genetic and anatomical structure of his liver that can’t be surgically corrected, he is bright and happy, gained weight and his albumin levels have improved to be within normal range! Everyone agreed that he is officially part of our 💖

Our little Fospice treasure is thriving with his parents and so we will continue his liver supportive diet, medications and having a joyful and enriching life for as long as Patches wants to be here. Each day is a gift and it seems like all the love is giving us an abundance of gifts both from and for DJ Patches. You can easily see in these little moments and videos that is he so full of life and happiness. It warms our hearts that we are able to be his humans and give him this experience as a rescue family.

You did it!! In just 48 hours we have reached our fundraising goal for this week’s vet care for Latke and Patches! We are blown away by the love and generosity from everyone who shared, networked, donated and cared about the wellbeing of two of our most special guys.

Rescue has been really tough lately mentally, physically, emotionally and financially. Each day is a gift and we will take every opportunity to celebrate the wins no matter how big or small. This one was huge. We are beyond thankful that we can do everything we need to do for Patches & Pancakes this week and not have to stress out about it which means more joyful energy for everyone at the sanctuary- animals and humans. Donations Needed

Friday is going to be a big medical day for two of our permanent sanctuary residents- DJ Patches & Latke. They will both be seeing our internal med specialist this week. Between the appointments, labs and diagnostics we are looking at a minimum of $1000.

Patches is our special liver boy who has an enlarged liver with multiple spider leg like ventricles that cannot be surgically fixed. He is doing great with his Fospice family, taking his meds and getting a liver supportive diet. Amazingly we have surpassed his 1 year anniversary with PMR but that also means it’s time for his annual general vet exam and recheck with Internal Med which includes new labs and an ultrasound.

Latke has been having abnormal kidney values that started in December. We checked them again in early February and switched him to a kidney supportive diet. We ran new labs and urine panel last week to see where he is at. Unfortunately some of his levels have gotten worse so we will be discussing what that means, next steps and how we can best support our pancake prince.

In spite of their medical challenges both boys appear stable, happy and living a great life. We plan on giving them both every opportunity to live as long and as comfortably as possible but desperately need your help to do that. Donations have dwindled, adoptions have halted. Because of this we are not in a position to take on any new cases under PMR but are 110% committed to providing our current foster and sanctuary residents the top level of care and love we have always given. Latke Update:

His UPC panel results show Latke is losing protein through his kidneys. We have already started him on hepato support supplements for his liver and are adjusting him to a kidney supportive low protein diet. Nutrition has always been a proactive and preventative tool we use in our full spectrum care method so we are home cooking him a fresh balanced diet and have a new shipment of kidney support food from on the way that will give Latke the specialized diet he needs without compromising on quality of food and ingredients with minimal processing. The plan is to recheck the UPC panel next month to see if his kidneys have bounced back to normal.

Thank you to everyone who has been supporting Latke’s most recent medical wave. Because of your generosity we have been able to do all the diagnostics to find the root of the issue and get him the things he needs to correct it. His new special diet will be an additional $150/month which is in addition to our sanctuary food costs so if anyone wants to contribute we would be so appreciative! Adopt Dotey Soufflé
💜🍮✨
Dotey is now 6 months old and patiently waiting for her furever family! She is the floofiest mini poodle mix with a big heart. Dotey gets along with all dogs although she can be a little shy at first. Her vision is slightly impaired by her very mild hydrocephalus but she can see, just not as clearly sometimes which makes her navigate unfamiliar spaces with caution. In places she knows though… there is no stopping this girl when she gets her zoomies on! She also loves to play fetch.

She is a great eater, does well on leash and is almost fully potty trained. Dotey is still learning some of the basics (like the fact that fingers and toys are not the same thing) so a house with kids over 8 would be best to continue guiding her growth. She is the BEST snuggler and just melts right into you. She also has a passion for fashion and enjoys wearing the latest styles and cozy sweaters in cold weather.

Dotey is just at 10 lbs now and will likely stay under 12 lbs when full grown- a great size that can easily travel which is good because she loves car rides too.

Dotey has been thriving with her amazing foster family but we would love to see her settle in to an adopting family. Please apply to adopt Dotey through link in bio or share to help her be seen by the perfect person.
