Our May 20th Monthly Program Dinner Meeting featured Peggy Kerr from the Judson Center.
The non-profit Judson Center, which recently celebrated its 100th Anniversary, initially opened as an orphanage in 1924 (the Detroit Baptist Children's Home) located in a wood farmhouse at 13 Mile Road and Greenfield. By 1930, it had expanded into a fire-resistant brick building, which they also outgrew. Time passed, society changed, and they added essential services and outreach. Today they serve as a major source of foster care, adoption, education, autism, and healthcare services.
With more than 400 employees and a core of volunteers, the Judson Center now serves more than 13,000 clients annually. They have locations in Oakland, Macomb, Wayne, Washtenaw, Genesee, and Jackson Counties, and continue to expand.
They continue to specialize in...
Child & Family Services: including Adoption, Adoption and Foster Family Recruitment and Retention, Family Reunification, Foster Care, and Independent Living Services for fosters over age 18;
Behavioral Health Services: including counseling, health education, in-home and Outpatient Treatment, Substance Use Disorders, and Veterans Services;
Autism Connections: providing a comprehensive family approach for autism spectrum disorder diagnoses. They provide diagnostics, Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), counseling, Social Skills Groups, and Family Support;
Disability Services: to assist individuals with disabilities to enable independent living, with vocational services, peer interactions, and respite care for families;
Primary Health: in combined practice with Advantage Health, they provide primary care and behavioral healthcare, health risk assessments, Immunizations, and mental health screenings and education.
