Thank You, Livingston NJ Police Department!
On May 7, Livingston Chinese Association(LCA)was honored to partner with Livingston Police Department(LPD)to host a community safety workshop at police headquarters, focusing on family safety, firearm safe storage, responsible ownership, Smart911, and New Jersey gun laws.
The evening drew about 50 residents, including more than 40 LCA members, and the level of engagement was truly encouraging. What was planned as a one-hour program quickly turned into a much longer and deeper conversation, with the Q&A continuing past 8:30 PM as residents kept asking questions and engaging with the officers.
We sincerely thank Chief Gary Marshuetz for listening to the voices and needs of the Chinese community and supporting this important initiative. We also thank Community Officer Joy Kaplan and Community Officer Michael Barreiro for hosting the evening and sharing helpful Smart911 information before the firearm safety presentation.
Special thanks to Patrol Lieutenant Christopher Grieco for providing clear and practical guidance on firearm safety, safe storage, responsible ownership, and New Jersey laws. We are also very grateful to Patrol Officer Kevin Chen, who took his personal time to participate and support the event. His presence was especially meaningful to many Chinese-speaking residents and helped make the conversation more accessible and welcoming.
This workshop was more than a safety presentation. It was part of LCA’s ongoing civic engagement efforts to help residents better understand local resources, ask questions directly, and build stronger connections with public safety professionals.
We hope more community members will continue to stay informed, participate in civic engagement opportunities, and work together to make Livingston a safer, stronger, and more connected community.
