Thank You, Livingston NJ Police Department!

On May 7, Livingston Chinese Association(LCA)was honored to partner with Livingston Police Department(LPD)to host a community safety workshop at police headquarters, focusing on family safety, firearm safe storage, responsible ownership, Smart911, and New Jersey gun laws.

The evening drew about 50 residents, including more than 40 LCA members, and the level of engagement was truly encouraging. What was planned as a one-hour program quickly turned into a much longer and deeper conversation, with the Q&A continuing past 8:30 PM as residents kept asking questions and engaging with the officers.

We sincerely thank Chief Gary Marshuetz for listening to the voices and needs of the Chinese community and supporting this important initiative. We also thank Community Officer Joy Kaplan and Community Officer Michael Barreiro for hosting the evening and sharing helpful Smart911 information before the firearm safety presentation.

Special thanks to Patrol Lieutenant Christopher Grieco for providing clear and practical guidance on firearm safety, safe storage, responsible ownership, and New Jersey laws. We are also very grateful to Patrol Officer Kevin Chen, who took his personal time to participate and support the event. His presence was especially meaningful to many Chinese-speaking residents and helped make the conversation more accessible and welcoming.

This workshop was more than a safety presentation. It was part of LCA’s ongoing civic engagement efforts to help residents better understand local resources, ask questions directly, and build stronger connections with public safety professionals.
We hope more community members will continue to stay informed, participate in civic engagement opportunities, and work together to make Livingston a safer, stronger, and more connected community.

On April 21, the LCA-hosted workshop on elections and campaign engagement was held with a full room and strong energy throughout.
Attendees came from more than a dozen towns—and even out of state—demonstrating a growing interest in civic engagement. The audience included candidates from both parties representing several communities, along with members of their campaign teams, as well as many residents who came to learn more, get informed, and become more involved in the community. Their presence reflected a broad, shared commitment to civic participation.
Thank you to Patti Russo, Executive Director of The Campaign School at Yale, for delivering an insightful and highly practical session on how elections work, how campaigns operate, and how individuals can engage more effectively in public life. We also appreciate the support and outreach from the League of Women Voters of Livingston, NJ and AAPI New Jersey.

This workshop is one of a series of civic engagement events organized by LCA to encourage greater community awareness, participation, and public involvement. As this is an election year, the program also reflects LCA’s commitment to encouraging more members of the community to step forward—not just as observers, but as informed and active participants—by learning about the process, staying engaged, voting, and making their voices heard.

🧧✨ A wonderful Lunar New Year celebration — and the start of our 24th LCCD! ✨🐎

Last Saturday’s evening performance launched this year’s Lunar New Year festivities and marked the opening of the 24th Livingston Chinese Culture Day (LCCD) — a long-standing tradition led by our local Chinese community. We were honored to be joined by elected officials, township and community leaders, the Livingston Public School District, partner organizations, and friends from across Livingston and beyond. Heartfelt thanks to everyone who came out to support us, and to the many volunteers, performers, and committee members who devoted months of meetings, planning, coordination, and preparation. This opening evening set the tone for a celebration that continues beyond the stage and into the community.

Special thank you to the Livingston High School World Language Department — with teachers’ guidance, the students who study Chinese contributed through volunteering, hosting, and performing. Their involvement reflects the district’s commitment to inclusive learning and community engagement across many backgrounds, supported by the Board of Education, district leadership, administrators, and staff.

🎉 The celebration continues this Saturday! 🎉
We warmly invite the public to LCCD Funfair this Saturday, February 7, from 1:30–5:30 PM at the Fitness & Wellness Center at Livingston High School. Enjoy kids’ activities, snacks, performances, and more — with our official opening ceremony and lion dance at 2:30 PM. Free admission, everyone welcome! Let’s continue celebrating the Lunar New Year together and bring the festivities into our neighborhoods and across our community. 🧧🎊

📹 A 3-minute highlight video from last Saturday is included in this post.

LCCD is organized through a partnership of five groups:
• Livingston Chinese School
• Livingston Huaxia Chinese School
• Livingston Chinese Association
