Meet John Harvey Space Science Fellow Luis Garcia, a rising senior at UC San Diego majoring in Electrical Engineering. This summer at LLNL, Luis has been working on updating an older data system used by optical astronomers for spectroscopy.

Fun Fact: Luis has climbed the Pyramid of the Sun in Mexico!

Meet Kim Cupps Carbon Fellow Angelina Guzman, a rising senior majoring in Chemical Engineering at UC Davis. This summer at LLNL, Angelina has been working on optimizing maritime carbon dioxide transportation through gas behavior simulations.

Fun Fact: Angelina has gone ziplining through the redwoods!

Meet Physics Fellow Celeste Maino, a rising senior at UC Santa Cruz majoring in Physics with a minor in Electrical Engineering. This summer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Celeste has been working on performance testing of STJ X-ray cameras.

Fun Fact: Celeste’s goal is to walk on all seven continents, including Antarctica! 🐧

Last week, the LLF team took our remaining summer fellows out to dinner in downtown Livermore to say a proper farewell after an incredible summer of at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

Meet Fusion Fellow Cari Johnston, a rising senior at UC Santa Cruz majoring in Physics with a minor in Mathematics. This summer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Cari has been working on optical systems and 3D print materials for fusion research at the National Ignition Facility.

Fun Fact: Cari has lived in Wales and can speak a little bit of Welsh!

Meet Delta College Carbon Fellow Saharat Phiphatsirikajorn, a rising junior majoring in Computer Engineering at San Joaquin Delta College. This summer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Saharat is testing next-generation polymers used in advanced energy applications.

Fun Fact: Saharat loves playing games in his free time!

Meet Delta College Carbon Fellow Ivan Soto, a rising junior majoring in Electrical Engineering at San Joaquin Delta College. This summer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Ivan will work on the IDEA Project (In-air Drop Encapsulation Apparatus), which creates tiny chemical droplets that are solidified into capsules using UV light to make chemical manufacturing faster, more efficient, and more cost-effective.

Fun Fact: Ivan enjoys hiking and exploring new environments!

Meet KCCD Fellow Avery Dingee, a rising junior at Bakersfield College majoring in Mechanical Engineering. This summer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Avery is helping to design a spill-containment drip tray custom-fitted for a pre-made, 8-tank mobile fluid rack to prevent hazardous leaks and ensure environmental compliance..

Fun Fact: Avery is a triplet with two sisters who are each pursuing vastly different fields of study!
