The John 3:16 Center is a community based Christian organization that provides programming, aid, and outreach to prevent child abuse and neglect, as well as end the cycle of generational poverty. While the center operates with a small staff, numerous volunteers, church groups, and community members work diligently to support the Center's programs and activities through time and monetary donation

✨ Sunday Inspiration ✨

"May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us, yes, establish the work of our hands." - Psalm 90:17

This Labor Day weekend, many of us are taking a well deserved pause. It is a good time to look back at the work of the past season and to remember that every honest effort, whether it happens in a classroom, a warehouse, a kitchen, or a quiet office, has meaning when it is offered to God.

This verse is a prayer that He would take what we do with our hands and make it last. That is our prayer at the John 3:16 Center too. Sorting donations, tutoring a student, stocking the pantry shelves, greeting a family who walks through our doors for the first time. None of it is glamorous, but all of it is work we believe God can establish and use for good.

To every volunteer, donor, staff member, and neighbor who labors alongside us in Halifax, Warren, and Northampton counties - Thank You. Your hands are building something that outlasts any single day.

Meet Our Coffee Roaster: Jason Shearin! ☕

We are excited to have Jason Shearin participating in this year's Taste Around the Lake, preparing our coffee course for the evening.

Jason is the proud owner and coffee roaster at Lake Gaston Coffee Company, which now has three locations open and ready to serve you. He chooses the beans and roasts them himself, and he recently opened Winston's Wine Shop as well. Jason is a great supporter of our local community, and we are grateful to have him on board.

For his signature creation, Jason will be preparing his fresh brewed coffee to perfectly complement the evening's dessert. A perfect finish to a delicious afternoon! 😋

✨ Sunday Inspiration ✨

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." - Galatians 6:9

As August comes to a close, we find ourselves at the turning point between seasons. The busyness of summer is behind us, the school year is underway, and for many, the routines of fall are settling in. It is often in these transitions that weariness can creep in.

This verse offers encouragement for exactly those moments. Doing good is not always easy, and the results are not always immediate. But God promises that a harvest is coming for those who keep showing up, keep serving, and keep loving their neighbors.

At the John 3:16 Center, we have seen this promise proven true again and again. Seeds planted at summer camp are blooming into confidence in the classroom. Meals shared, coats given, and hours volunteered may seem small in the moment, but over time they grow into changed lives and a stronger community.

So if you are feeling tired this week, take heart. Your faithfulness matters, and the harvest is on its way.

💙 Kindness in Action! 💙

Sometimes, a blessing comes in a way we never expected.

Recently, we received a referral for a family who did not meet the requirements for an appointment through our Crisis Assistance Program. When we spoke with the family, we shared about our low-cost thrift store, including our affordable prices and hours, and encouraged them to stop by to see if they could find some of the things they needed within their budget.

They came in to shop, and one of our wonderful volunteers happened to meet them while they were shopping. As they talked, our volunteer offered to spend time helping the family find the things they needed.

But then something truly special happened. ❤️

Our volunteer selflessly blessed this family by purchasing their entire order! The family was overwhelmed with gratitude and so thankful for the kindness shown to them.

This is what it looks like when we put our faith into action. 🙏❤️

It is such a blessing to see kindness, compassion, and generosity in action through our mission every day. We may not always be able to meet a need through one of our programs, but sometimes God provides another way—and what a beautiful reminder that we are called to love one another and be the hands and feet of Jesus.

Thank you to our incredible volunteers who continue to serve, love, and bless others in ways both big and small. Your kindness makes a difference!
