We’d like to give a big thanks to The Forgotten Farm at Airlie. While unfortunate circumstances lead to her being unable to open her backyard garden today, she was gracious enough to share her stock of goodies with us and another neighboring department as she’s knows what a busy weekend it’s been. Thank you so much Sheri, we appreciate you!

Around 12:30 this afternoon we were paged out for a small brush fire on Eaton Ferry Rd. Due to extremely dry conditions and winds, the fire spread quickly and was rapidly threatening the homeowners residence as well as the woods. Littleton Volunteer Fire Department was already on the way for assistance, so we called in Churchill Five Forks VFD, Roanoke Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department and N.C. Forest Service as well. We provided protection to the exposed structure until additional units arrived. Then, once all units were on scene, we were able to get the fire under control utilizing multiple departments and their apparatus and man power. After two hours we were able to turn the scene over to Forestry for them to plow and continue efforts of making the fire fully extinguished. Then we headed back to the station for another hour of packing and cleaning trucks.Warren County Emergency Services, NC came and set up a relief tent and provided drinks, snacks, shade, etc. which was much appreciated and utilized heavily on this 100+ degree day. Thank you to Warren County Dispatch for help organizing and requesting all units. Thank you all for your help today and we beg everyone to use extreme caution over the upcoming days

We were thrilled to help out again today for Hawtree Volunteer Fire Departments annual kids camp. Being a small part of teaching kids what community service means and hoping some will want to be a part in a few years is so important everywhere but especially in rural areas.

We regret to inform you that Longbridge VFD will not have a 2026 fireworks show on Eaton Ferry Bridge.
Multiple contributing factors have led to this decision:

🎆Despite the current rain, Warren County is still listed in a severe drought condition. It may be better in 2 weeks but as we've been in this condition for a while now, we can not assume that and we would not get a refund. We are currently in a 14” rain deficit.
🎆New construction near our shooting point has left us looking for alternative locations to shoot safely from, forward. Multiple new homes have gone up across from our location and especially with this drought, it’s just not feasible.
🎆Cost. Like everything, fireworks have increased in price and the fireworks are solely funded by donations. We do not have county or corporate sponsors, all of our money comes from our supporters. Longbridge VFD has been doing the fireworks since 1998 and almost every year has been a struggle to reach our goal. Now we will also need funds for a new location. We need these before July as we make deposits months and months in advance. We need the community, we need the businesses, we need you. We are also actively looking for sponsors for next years show. We want to have banners made with high visibility perfect for sponsors. Start donating now to help us keep this tradition going. We have a special fireworks account that all of our donations go into so make sure you notate what your donation is for.

We understand you are disappointed, trust us, we are beyond disappointed too. We love the fireworks. This is truly an act of love that we pour hours, days, and weeks into getting ready for. Permits, planning, organizing, fundraising, etc. it’s a lot and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Other departments and organizations help us as well and it’s a real community event. So let’s start planning for next year!

Another fire alert!!

🚒 High Fire Danger: While the burn ban has been lifted, high fire danger is back for Tuesday and Wednesday across most of the state. Hot, dry conditions, with some lighter to moderate winds, will keep fire danger high across the state, along with soil drying.

Humidity levels ramp up Thursday into the weekend along with increasing showers/storm chances at least in hit or miss fashion so after Wednesday the fire danger should decrease again.
