Rivers Alliance of Connecticut is a membership based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing Connecticut's rivers, streams and watersheds. Rivers Alliance was founded in 1992 by the state's leading river and watershed groups in recognition of their need for consistent, reliable collaboration, networking, and unity in public policy development and public education. are led by a small dedicated staff and a thirteen-member Board of Directors with representatives from environmental organizations, business, and law. Our members are individuals, organizations and businesses concerned with the health and protection of Connecticut's rivers and watershed.

Today is Earth Day — a moment to pause and think about the natural resources we depend on every day. If you’re looking for a simple way to do something positive for the environment, this is it. Give to protect the water you love. And each gift during gift local goes further because the Connecticut Community Foundation helps to amplify your gift with bonus funds for each gift. Big and small.

“Eighty percent of success is showing up.”

For Rivers Alliance, that means being in the room. Sometimes that means showing up to talk about sewage. Sometimes it means waiting hours at the Capitol to speak out against a really bad idea.

Because when decisions are made, it matters who is there and what they bring to the table. Your support helps ensure that water has a strong, informed voice when it counts.

A gift to Rivers Alliance during Give Local amplifies your gift through bonus funds from the Connecticut Community Foundation. Please consider a gift today.

Right now, you have the chance to help protect the water you rely on. In real, meaningful ways. This year, we’re working toward a goal of $15,000 during Give Local. It’s built one gift at a time. Every gift, no matter the size, helps move us closer and drives the work happening right now across Connecticut.

And during Give Local, every donation also helps generate additional bonus funds, increasing the impact you have. I hope you will consider a gift today and thank you for being someone who protects water.

Wow! What a great shout out from the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame!

💧On World Water Day, we’re highlighting the women leading the fight to protect clean, safe water in Connecticut. From Margaret Miner, who helped advance landmark protections through her leadership at Rivers Alliance of Connecticut, to Alicea Charamut, a scientist‑turned‑advocate now steering the organization and advising on statewide water policy, women are at the forefront of defending our rivers, wetlands, and drinking‑water sources. At Rivers Alliance Connecticut, that work includes pushing for strong streamflow standards, fighting pollution and toxic contaminants like PFAS, and supporting local groups working to protect waters in their own communities. Water is never just an environmental issue, worldwide; it’s a gender, class, and race issue, and women leaders are working to ensure that where water flows, equity grows.

Really fascinating! Also a good reminder of how sediment transfer is an essential function of river ecology.

Why do some rivers split? UCSB scientists found the answer—and it could change how we restore and manage waterways.

Rivers are powerful. Most of the time we think of their power in positive ways - they inspire, they provide, they draw us to their banks. They can also be powerful in devastating ways. Our thoughts are with those impacted by the flooding in Texas.

Thank you to the Connecticut Community Foundation for providing a pathway for folks to give to the recovery efforts.
