The Farmer’s Table is not your average farm-to-table dinner. Its mission is to support farmers and farming in Litchfield County, Connecticut.
In 2010, The Farmer’s Table was created by a group of friends, along with strong supporters and volunteers, to celebrate Litchfield County farmers with an annual dinner. This annual dinner has been very successful in strengthening the connection between those who grow our food and those who benefit from it — our community. This awareness is essential to our farmers' survival and success.
What started as an informal two-way conversation over delicious seasonal food has evolved into a purposeful dialogue among farmers and their supporters. Recognizing the potential impact of this communication, the Litchfield based nonprofit Sustainable Healthy Communities invited the Farmer’s Table to become an integral initiative in its support of area farmers.
Through our interaction, local farmers have highlighted issues that they feel are essential for their growth and survival. Our team, with funds raised by the annual dinner, focuses on addressing their issues of ongoing agro-education and creating broader access to their produce and products by a wider group of consumers.
Funds raised at The Farmer’s Table Dinner have been used to:
-purchase CSA shares from local farms for local social services and nonprofits.
-develop and produce the Farmer’s Forum, a free, day-long conference addressing needs identified by our farmers.
-sponsor farmers at conferences relevant to their needs.
-fund summer agricultural internships for local students.
-purchase food from local farms for schools (Farm-To-School programs).
