A few weeks ago we were fortunate to have a trove of Buda parts donated to us from a tug being scrapped out in Chicago. Since then we’ve formed a “Pit Crew” so that we can complete a full top and bottom end rebuild of our historic 1952 Buda diesel main engine. The last time this maintenance was done was over 50 years ago before the Sea Dart II entered service as a Sea Scout training vessel. This also represents the penultimate project in our 4-year restoration of the Sea Dart II after her first 50 years in service. This not only gives us the opportunity to inspect every part of the engine in detail and replace any parts with wear, but it is also a once in a lifetime learning experience for our Scouts. After this project is complete, all that remains is the redesign and refitting of our overnight berthing accommodations and the Sea Dart II will be ready for many more years of service to our young men and women!

While our Scouts were wrapping up their Nautical Adventure Camp this past weekend some of our adult volunteers made a trip to Chicago to salvage parts off of an engine on an old Navy YTL that is getting scrapped. With the parts we brought back we have everything we need to do a full rebuild on our historic Buda diesel engine and keep her running for decades to come!

We wrapped up our first LiNE Nautical Adventure Camp this week with a rafting trip on the Delaware, camping, and a trip to the Statue of Liberty. A great time was had by all!
