UPDATE: Middlesex Water Company has not issued any advisories yet until they have located the break. They will advise if suggested and they will post notices throughout the impacted area neighborhood.

The NJDEP does recommend to boil water in the occurrence of a water main break, but Middlesex Water Company has not issued an advisory. We will post on our social medias if and when they d

They are mobilizing to be on site around 2 pm to evaluate and begin repairs. Current impact is unknown, but we will keep you posted, and you can visit their site at www.middlesexwater.com

The Carteret PBA sends its condolences to the family and friends of our long time former Deputy Court Administrator, Anthony Abello. In a profession where you may come across a few bad guys, Tony was one of the nicest people that we had the pleasure to know. Our court was definitely a better place with him in it. Rest in Peace Mr. Abello.

OFFICERS NEARLY KILLED BY DRUNK DRIVER AWAITING TRIAL ON PRIOR CRASH

A drunk driver struck two Clifton police vehicles on Route 21 on Sunday, injuring an officer and causing two vehicles to catch fire.

Three Clifton police officers were investigating a crash in the left lane of Route 21 North near River Road around 4 a.m. Two police vehicles were parked in the left lane to block traffic from the crash scene.

Police say a 2024 Acura MDX driven by 32-year-old Matthew Cancel approached in the left lane and struck both police vehicles.

One officer was inside one of the vehicles and suffered a head injury. Two other officers who were outside the vehicles narrowly avoided being struck. One of them was forced to dive over a concrete divider.

The Acura and one of the police vehicles caught fire. Police say all occupants got out before both vehicles became fully engulfed in flames. The second police vehicle sustained heavy rear-end damage.

Cancel was charged with assault by auto and numerous motor vehicle violations including DWI.

Cancel was already awaiting trial next month for leaving the scene of a crash outside the municipal complex on Clifton Avenue in the middle of the afternoon on Oct. 28, 2025.

His driving record also includes no fewer than 170 summonses dating back to 2007 in 32 New Jersey municipalities.

NJ State PBA President Peter Andreyev said, "This is outrageous. Officers have to jump over a divider, patrol cars bursting into flames, all to avoid a tragedy. This guy doesn't care about the law or the lives he puts in jeopardy. His license should have been suspended already from the last crash. He should have to go to court to prove he has the right to drive. We could be planning PBA members funerals today because of his reckless conduct."

EOW: SGT. LAWRENCE CRAIG 8/15/16

This morning, members of our Union placed a wreath in front of Headquarters in memory of Sgt. Craig.

10 years ago, one of the members of our department reported for duty, but he did not go home that night. Sgt. Lawrence Craig, or Luke or Larry as all of his coworkers called him, was always quick with a joke or the first one to lighten the mood in a stressful situation. Sgt. Craig came in on his day off to cover a crew that was working short that afternoon. In extreme heat, Sgt. Craig responded to multiple calls and he suffered a medical episode. Officers Antonio Dominguez, Kevin Horn, Donald Earp and Javier Diaz (Sgt. Craig’s Crew) and the CFD EMS responded and immediately began performing life saving measures on Sgt. Craig. He was transported to the hospital, where he would pass away. Sgt. Lawrence Craig is the third Carterer Police Officer to have his name engraved on the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, DC.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Sgt. Craig’s family, especially his sons, Michael, Justin and Joseph, who he was very proud of and all of his grandchildren, who we know he would’ve adored. Sgt. Craig’s son Justin is a member of our department. He has followed in the footsteps of his father and his grandfather, John Craig.
