We need to take a moment here ~

Can we just talk about the remarkable work of Disney animators in developing characters that sign songs?? This absolutely captivated me!! Wow!

Tonight, I finally had the chance to watch this and I was deeply moved, filled with an overwhelming sense of pride for the Deaf Community and how far representation has come. I caught myself signing-“Finally”, “PAH”!!!!

Watching the songs this evening, brought me back to my very first time learning ASL. First grade. Thank you to Mrs. Wallace (Liz Wallace) for opening that door for me. And thank you Larry Forestal (🙏🏻), Robin Barbera, who continued support, inspire, and shape my ASL journey through my high school years. The support and encouragement from these incredible teachers, along with my family and friends, led me to so many meaningful moments in my life and helped me realize early on that this was exactly the path I was meant to follow.

Through those many tireless efforts and advocating for ASL over the years, I continue to strive for it’s language recognition! It deserves the respect, and appreciation as any other language or culture.
ASL should be a fundamental part of education and accessible to all students.

The personal experiences, along with the countless stories,
hold immense significance in my heart. Moments like this remind me why I continue to do more things in the field, and it leaves me hopeful for all that is still to come. Disney+ The Lewisburg Area Deaf & Hearing Alliance

Happy National ASL Day! 🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
Lets take the time to recognize ASL as a complete and natural language, not simply a derivative of English. The founding of the American School for the Deaf truly marked a turning point, not just in education, but in the validation of Deaf culture and language in the United States.

Today is also an opportunity to highlight how ASL continues to evolve as a living language, shaped by the Deaf community itself. It is not static—it carries regional variation, cultural nuance, and rich storytelling traditions that go far beyond vocabulary.

Equally important is the reminder that access is still an ongoing effort. Awareness days like this are meaningful when they translate into action—whether that’s advocating for interpreters, increasing representation, or encouraging more people to engage with ASL in a respectful and informed way.

If you’re acknowledging this with your students or community today, even something simple—like sharing a sign, a story, or a Deaf creator—can make the day feel active rather than symbolic.
