One Year Later: The Beautiful and the Brutal

One year of farm life. One year of building Blue Dahlia Equine. Approximately 10,000 lessons we didn't sign up for.

This journey has brought more beauty, purpose, laughter, and perspective than we ever imagined. It's also tested us and introduced us to a few realities that the dream version conveniently left out.

Here's to learning as we go, laughing when we can, and keeping the dream alive. ❤️🐴

A big thank you to Tracy Young for coming out and helping get these guys more comfortable on their feet! Some of our residents need a little extra attention, and making sure they’re happy, healthy, and comfortable is always our priority.

Welcome to Blue Dahlia, Peter 🤎

At 17.2 hands, 14-year-old Peter is the definition of tall, dark, and handsome — with a big, goofy personality to match.

Peter is an OTTB with quite a racing career behind him. We’re still gathering all the details, and once we have them, we can’t wait to share more about where he’s been and what he accomplished on the track.

A change in circumstances brought Peter to Blue Dahlia, where he’ll have a safe place to land while we get to know him and determine what his next chapter will look like. So far, we’ve learned that he’s incredibly friendly, loves attention, and is just as goofy as he is handsome.

We’re so excited to have this big guy with us. Welcome to the Blue Dahlia family, Peter! 💙

Meet Lucy

“Sight Unseen” | Senior OTTB Mare

If you’ve been part of the local hunter/jumper community, Lucy may look familiar.

Lucy, show name Sight Unseen, is an upper-20s OTTB who has spent much of her life in our area. After her racing career, she went on to compete on the hunter/jumper circuit before retiring to a loving home with an older woman.

Sadly, when her owner passed away, Lucy needed somewhere safe to land. That’s when she came to Blue Dahlia.

Lucy is still settling in and, at times, seems a little shut down by all the changes life has brought her. But every day, we see a little more of her sweet, loving personality begin to shine through.

As a senior mare, Lucy still needs continued nutritional care, dental care, corrective shoeing, and ongoing veterinary support to keep her happy and comfortable.

Whether Lucy eventually finds her forever person or Blue Dahlia becomes her forever home, she won’t have to wonder where she belongs again.

Lucy spent a lifetime taking care of people. Now, it’s our turn to take care of her. ❤️

Look at this gorgeous girl! 💙

Lucy is shining extra bright today thanks to one of our wonderful donors who surprised her with a brand-new, beautifully padded leather halter with blue stitching from Ovation Riding.

Moments like this remind us how lucky we are to have such a dedicated community surrounding us. Thank you so much for showering Lucy with love and generosity—it means the world to us and to her.

Lucy had herself a little spa day!

After getting a much-needed bath, Lucy got to enjoy one of the best parts of the day: relaxing outside and grazing with her friend, Star Vespie 💕
