🌟 The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office Auxiliary is proud to partner with the Decatur County Conservation Board for Hometown Heroes Day Camp! 🌟

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Decatur County Conservation Board for the opportunity to partner together on this incredible event. It is an honor to work alongside so many outstanding agencies that are dedicated to educating, inspiring, and serving the youth of Decatur County.

Our Auxiliary is proud to support this event by providing lunch for all of the participants and volunteers. We believe investing in our youth and helping them learn about the men and women who serve our communities is one of the best ways to build stronger relationships and inspire future hometown heroes.

We are grateful for the partnerships between the Decatur County Conservation Board, Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, Leon Fire Department, Decatur County Hospital, Decatur County Public Health, Decatur County IA EMA, Iowa Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement, and everyone else who has helped make this day possible.

Thank you again to the Decatur County Conservation Board for allowing us to be part of such a meaningful community event. We look forward to a fun-filled day of learning, laughter, and making lasting memories!

This Memorial Day, the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office joins our community and our nation in pausing to remember the brave men and women who gave their lives while serving our country.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend. It is a time to reflect on the courage, commitment, and sacrifice of those who never made it home. Because of their service, we continue to enjoy the freedoms they fought to protect.

As families and friends gather this weekend, we ask everyone to take a moment to remember the true purpose of this day and to honor those who paid the ultimate price.

We also take time to remember the Iowans who were lost this past year while serving overseas in Syria and Kuwait:

Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard of Marshalltown
Sgt. Edgar Brian Torres-Tovar of Des Moines
Sgt. Declan Coady of West Des Moines
Maj. Jeffrey O’Brien of Waukee

Their service, sacrifice, and dedication will not be forgotten.

This Memorial Day, may we remember them, honor them, and strive to live in a way that reflects the freedoms they gave everything to defend.

🏆 Congratulations to Bianca Swartz on being selected as the recipient of the 2026 DCSO Auxiliary School Resource Officer Scholarship! 🏆

On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, Bianca was awarded the $500 scholarship sponsored on behalf of the DCSO Auxiliary. This scholarship is offered each year to a Central Decatur senior pursuing a career in public service, and Bianca truly exemplifies what it means to serve others with leadership, compassion, integrity, and dedication.

Throughout high school, Bianca has been heavily involved in organizations and activities that focus on leadership, teamwork, and community service, including:

▪️ FCCLA District Officer
▪️ FFA Leadership Roles
▪️ National Honor Society
▪️ FCA
▪️ Cheerleading, Dance, and Wrestling

Bianca’s scholarship application highlighted her passion for helping others and her desire to pursue a career in nursing through Mercy College of Health Sciences. Her application demonstrated not only academic excellence, but also a strong commitment to serving her school and community through volunteer work, leadership opportunities, and mentoring others.

One area that stood out in her application was her involvement in planning a mock crash event at school to help educate students about safe driving and the dangers of impaired driving. Her dedication to public outreach and safety awareness reflects the very purpose of this scholarship and the mission of the School Resource Officer program.

Bianca also spoke about overcoming adversity with integrity, kindness, and maturity while continuing to lead by example. Her teachers, advisors, coaches, and community members have all played a role in helping shape her into the outstanding young woman she is today.

We are proud of Bianca and excited to see the positive impact she will continue to make in the healthcare field and in her community for years to come.

The DCSO Auxiliary is proud to promote the School Resource Officer Scholarship, offered through the partnership between the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office and Central Decatur Community School District.

This is the second year this scholarship has been offered, supporting Central Decatur students who want to serve their communities in the public service field.

💰 Scholarship Details:
• Total Award: $500
• May be awarded to one student or split between two students
• Open to Central Decatur seniors graduating in 2026
• Must be pursuing a public service career such as:
🚔 Law Enforcement
🚒 Fire Service
🚑 EMS / Paramedic
🛟 Other Public Safety or Service careers

📅 Application Deadline: May 1, 2026
