Today we honor Juneteenth, a day of remembrance, reflection, and commitment to justice.

On June 19, 1865, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned that they had been freed, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. This moment reminds us that the journey toward freedom and equality has been complex, and that the work of building a more just society continues.

As we commemorate Juneteenth, we recognize the resilience, courage, and contributions of Black communities throughout history. We recommit ourselves to the ongoing work of dismantling racism, honoring human dignity, and advancing justice and peace for all.

May we continue to listen, learn, and act in solidarity with one another.

Join the League of Women Voters Leavenworth County on July 18 as they host a discussion on immigration with some of our awesome sisters and an incredible community advocate from the Carceral Accountability Council!

Our July meeting will focus on immigration and its impact on our community. We expect an interesting and lively discussion with Sister Theresa, Sister Elena and Justin Young of the Core Civic Community Relations Board. Join us on July 18th.
