Today the District was honored to be part of the Gwinnett Municipal Association’s monthly meeting. Chairman Ellis Lamme introduced himself, then Ben R from the GA Soil and Water Conservation Commission. Ben gave the audience of mayors, city council members and city managers updates on E&S management standards and more. Then District Outreach Tixie Fowler shared a more local perspective of the District’s work, especially how the group is actively involved in Gwinnett schools with programs designed to engage young people in urban agriculture and natural resources conservation. ✅

Another awesome FFA banquet is in the books! ✅🤩 Brookwood’s impressive Agriculture leadership program has grown over the years; however it was their first year participating in Envirothon as part of FFA, and they were up against some very experienced teams. The District was so proud of their accomplishments we had to give a prize - Mr. Ellis presented the school with a gorgeous trophy and leather-bound portfolios for each of the winners on the team. Way to go Brookwood FFA! 🤩💚 Georgia Association of Conservation Districts

It was a rainy night in Georgia - PERFECT for wrapping up the first year of Grayson High School/Tech’s first year of FFA (Future Farmers of America) ✅ The celebration for this small-but-mighty inaugural team of teens was well attended by supportive parents, grandparents and community partners - their accomplishments were truly IMPRESSIVE and too numerous to list here. Kudos to all the students, and most of all to Tabitha Brodnax Potter, the passionate, dedicated and sleep-deprived teacher who guided them at the same time she was learning the FFA ropes. So proud of the Brookwood High School team we sponsored - the students did a GREAT job in their first Georgia Envirothon! 🤩🎉This rigorous environmental sciences competition tests the students' ability to identify the trees, wildlife, soils, and sustainability initiatives specific to Georgia....it's a LOT to learn and be able to recite under pressure. Kudos to the teens and their amazing teacher, Dr. Carrie Settles! 🤩💚 Georgia Association of Conservation Districts

The Gwinnett District's Chairman Ellis Lamme recently joined forces with his peers from around the state, meeting with their State Representatives and Senators to lobby for support. The meetings are intended to strengthen relationships with their respective legislators and update them on Conservation District accomplishments statewide. Participating in this annual "Conservation Day at the Capitol" is just one way Ellis works to keep conservation going strong in Gwinnett...and Georgia! 🤩 Georgia Association of Conservation Districts

Awesome morning introducing our fav amphibian experts to White Oak Elementary School - the 1st graders weren’t the only ones to learn something new about frogs and toads! Shout out to The Amphibian Foundation and their froggy ambassadors - armed w their new knowledge of amphibian habitat, the students are going to build a FROG BOG! 🐸💚 Georgia Association of Conservation Districts

We love helping young people turn their ideas into reality, especially when it's through the lens of conservation! "One School, One Forest" is the brainchild of Aby, one of our student leaders participating in GECOS (Gwinnett's Environmentally Conscious Organization of Students) Despite FREEZING COLD temps today, we walked Aby's school campus w Lea of the Georgia Forestry Commission to pick a place to plant Aby's first tree. Then Lea helped her plan next steps....as a GECOS leader, Aby will be taking her program into more Gwinnett schools this Winter! 🤩 Georgia Association of Conservation Districts
