Today, David Crockett VFW Post 1618 was honored to welcome Senator Page Walley and Lawrence County Executive David Morgan to our Post.

During their visit, they generously donated a brand-new American flag to our VFW. The American flag is more than just a symbol, it represents the freedoms we enjoy, the sacrifices made by our veterans, active-duty service members, and their families, and the enduring spirit of our nation.

We sincerely appreciate Senator Walley and Mr. Morgan taking the time to stop by and support our veterans. Their thoughtful donation will proudly fly over our Post as a reminder of the patriotism, service, and community spirit that unite us all.

Thank you, Senator Page Walley and David Morgan, for your continued support of the veterans of Lawrence County and David Crockett VFW Post 1618. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ FLAG ETIQUETTE REMINDER πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

As veterans, we take great pride in our nation's flag and the values it represents. We often receive questions about displaying the American Flag and the Tennessee State Flag indoors, especially when mounted against a wall.

According to accepted flag etiquette, when the U.S. Flag and a state flag are displayed together on a wall, the American Flag should always be placed in the position of honor. When facing the flags, the American Flag belongs on the observer's left, while the state flag should be on the observer's right.

The American Flag should never be displayed lower than any other flag and should always be treated with dignity and respect. These traditions help preserve the honor of those who have served and sacrificed under its colors.

At David Crockett VFW Post 1618, we are proud to display our flags properly and encourage everyone to learn and follow proper flag etiquette.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ One of the first official acts of newly elected Commander Ben Wiley of David Crockett VFW Post 1618 was the presentation of a VFW Law Enforcement Public Servant Award to Captain Colton Steadman of the Saint Joseph Police Dept. This award recognizes law enforcement officers who demonstrate exceptional service, professionalism, and dedication to the communities they serve. Captain Steadman was selected for his willingness to assist a VFW member in caring for the property of an elderly Navy veteran. While on duty serving the citizens of St. Joseph, Captain Steadman took the time to help ensure that a veteran's property was cared for, demonstrating that service extends far beyond the badge.

In addition to the plaque, the members of Post 1618 presented Captain Steadman with a handcrafted Thin Blue Line American flag as a token of appreciation for his dedication and support of veterans. We hope it serves as a reminder of the respect and gratitude our members have for him, whether displayed in his office or at his home. We were also honored to have Captain Steadman's daughter, Marlee, present for the ceremony. It was clear she was proud of her daddy, and seeing that pride on her face made the moment even more special.

David Crockett VFW Post 1618 strongly believes that outstanding public servants deserve to be recognized. We encourage all law enforcement, fire, EMS, dispatch, and other first responder agency leaders throughout our community to submit the names of employees they believe exemplify service above self. Through the VFW's Public Servant Awards Program, we look forward to recognizing those men and women who go above and beyond in serving our citizens, strengthening our communities, and supporting our veterans.
