Family Group at WNY Compassion Connection was filled with sharing, caring, and creativity. 😊💖

Kids, teens and adults talked about coping skills and how they can carry us through grief, stress, anger, anxiety, and those overwhelming “big emotions.”

We explored:
✨ The difference between healthy coping skills and unhealthy coping skills
✨ How emotions can impact behavior, friendships, school, sports, and family relationships

We openly discussed unhealthy coping patterns and why they can make things harder over time.

The hands-on highlight of the night for our WNYCC kids? Making Worry Monsters to help share worries when emotions feel too big. Working with clay turned out to be a coping skill all on its own, offering calm, focus, and expression. 🎨

We’re so grateful for this special place of hope and connection where families can support each other, process, and heal together. ✨❤️‍🩹

Their partnership is not only important, it is indispensable as we deliver on our promise to make Western New York a more compassionate, supportive place to grieve.

Congratulations to Matthew Schaefer on winning the NHL Calder Trophy, an incredible and well-deserved achievement recognizing the very best of the NHL’s rising stars. 🏒✨

We were especially honored that Matthew took the time to stop by WNY Compassion Connection last year when he was in town for the NHL Combine. In the midst of a critical time, he showed up with genuine kindness, humility, and heart. As a fellow bereaved youth, his presence meant more than he knows to our families and staff.

We’re cheering you on, Matthew…not just for what you’ve accomplished on the ice, but for the compassion and authenticity you show off it. 💙🫶🏻✨
