It’s Team Member Tuesday!

Meet Lindsey, one of the Animal Care Specialists on our Mammal Team! Lindsey loves the hands-on experience that comes with caring for the many incredible animals that call the Wildlife Center home. She hopes to continue her education next spring, expanding her knowledge and skills as she works toward becoming an even better animal care professional.

Outside of the Wildlife Center, Lindsey is also a talented creative who enjoys illustrating, sewing, and propmaking.

We’re excited to have Lindsey as part of our team!

Look how much Everest (and Emery) have grown! 🐒❤️

It feels like just yesterday our cotton-topped tamarin twins were tiny babies clinging to their parents’ backs, and now we rarely see them hitching a ride at all!

They’ve become so much more independent, spending their days exploring, climbing, playing, and keeping up with the rest of their family.

They’re growing up way too fast! ❤️

It’s amazing how much can change in just a little over a week! 🦉❤️

Our oldest spectacled owl chick, affectionately known as “DJ Swab” by our animal care team, is looking more grown up by the day! Those fluffy baby feathers have continued to give way to juvenile plumage, and lately he’s been spending lots of time exploring his surroundings, climbing, perching, and stretching those growing wings.

As he becomes stronger and more confident, we’re seeing more and more of the curious, independent young owl he’s quickly becoming. We’re enjoying every moment of watching DJ Swab grow, because clearly he isn’t planning on staying little for long! ❤️

You have to admit, southern ground hornbills know how to make an impression. 👀

Between their enormous bill, bright red facial skin, and unmistakably dramatic eyelashes, these birds are hard to overlook.

But those lashes actually serve a purpose! Southern ground hornbills spend much of their time walking and foraging on the ground, and their long eyelashes help shield their eyes from dust and debris along the way.

Proof that sometimes the most eye-catching features are practical, too.
