🌟 It’s Team Member Tuesday! Meet Scott, our Senior Wildlife Educator! 🌟

Scott has been part of the North Florida Wildlife Center since the very beginning, helping connect our guests with wildlife and inspiring a deeper appreciation for the animals we share our planet with.

He brings an impressive educational background to the team, with a bachelor’s degree in biology, an associate degree in animal care and training, and a postgraduate diploma in biology!

When he’s not at the Wildlife Center, Scott enjoys paddleboarding, birdwatching, and reading folklore from his travels. His favorite animals include kea and kākāpō, while his favorites here are Olympia, our griffon vulture; Azula, our southern ground hornbill; and our ruffed lemurs.

Scott is pictured with our ambassador blue-tongued skink, Blue Ivy, and one of our major supporters, Ms. Cheryl Gibbons, who is celebrating her 80th birthday today! Happy birthday, Cheryl, and thank you for being such a special part of our Wildlife Center family! 🎉

Exciting news! Our silvery-cheeked hornbill pair, Hollie and Silver, have moved into their huge new aviary in Tropical Treasures! 🌿

This active duo is so much fun to watch as they fly, play, call to one another, and even share food. Be sure to stop by and see them on your next visit! 💚

A little extra TLC for our sweet Doodle! ❤️

Doodle, one of our resident emus, recently underwent a minor veterinary procedure to address an older wound on his head that wasn’t healing as well as we had hoped.

With the help of veterinarian Dr. Kocel and our animal care team, Doodle received a few stitches to help the area heal properly. In these photos, you’ll see our team gently cleaning the area following his procedure, along with a close-up of sweet Doodle resting under anesthesia before waking up!

Just another glimpse into the veterinary care that happens behind the scenes at the Wildlife Center. Providing exceptional care for our animal residents is always our top priority! ❤️

We’re seeking new grocery partners! 🍎 Donations of imperfect produce, items past their shelf life or expiration date that are still safe for our animals, and other suitable foods help feed our residents and reduce waste.

We’d especially appreciate recommendations for smaller, independently operated groceries that can approve donations locally, or stores with established donation or pickup programs.

Two familiar faces are ready to meet you! ❤️

Fetsy and Masiaka, our red ruffed lemurs, are now part of our Lemur Encounters! Get to know these two incredible personalities up close while learning about their critically endangered species and their forest home in Madagascar.

Your encounter also helps protect lemurs in the wild. Through our partnership with Green Again Madagascar, a portion of every Lemur Encounter supports reforestation in their native country. In 2025, our support helped plant 1,296 trees! 🌱🇲🇬

North Florida Wildlife Center ranked #2 among Florida zoos in BusinessRate’s 2026 rankings, based on Google reviews!

This is an incredible milestone for our growing nonprofit, and it means so much knowing that our visitors’ experiences helped earn this recognition.

✔️ Able to commit consistent time each week
✔️ Comfortable working outdoors year-round
