Did you know? Even in the event of extreme weather, if you use a wheelchair, or if you are disabled, shelters not only can turn you away, they routinely do? But, they pretend to protect the vulnerable. People in wheelchairs are not able to warm themselves up with movement, the way you and I can. They are truly vulnerable, and we lost a man named Michael a season ago because of it. When I was on the streets, I personally had to take care of several ladies because I would not have been okay knowing they didn't make it inside. It's time for legislation that closes that loophole!

So we're going to get more vouchering that you can't get on the day of the storm and you can only access to a navigator. However, Lakewood passed cold weather sheltering for over 4 years ago! It's an abdication of duty and we need to call on our representatives to do more and to prevent people's deaths and disability due to cold weather. Even if they're not in a home, they are still our neighbors.

Tonight is Lakewood Left Community Eats Project's 5th anniversary 🥳🎉!
Come share it with us! Bring something, or just yourselves! We want your presence for this milestone event. We'll have dinner, drinks, cake, clothes and more!
Starts at 7 and goes till we run out, around 830 or 9pm
We've had our community dinner every Friday night, come hell or high water, rain, snow or sun- for 5 years! That's worth celebrating!

This Friday night, Lakewood Left invites you to come celebrate 5 years of Community and Advocacy! Please, feel free to bring a dish, hygiene products, jewelry, shoes, clothes, makeup, sunscreen, lip balm, sunglasses, or, ANYTHING else you want to give to our homeless neighbors. Cash donations are also accepted, 100% goes to the cause!
But, you don't have to show up with anything! Sometimes, a listening ear is what a friend needs!

Wanna give hair cuts, shaves, makeovers, car diagnostics, six shoes, make vests, make buttons and patches, or check vitals?
