Coach Brown is more than a coach—he is a leader, mentor, and servant to his community. Today, we want to recognize one of our mentees for something that takes real courage — the willingness to be vulnerable.

In a world that often tells athletes to be tough, stay quiet, and keep pushing through, this young leader chose to speak openly about his emotions, struggles, and experiences. That kind of honesty isn’t weakness — it’s strength.

At R2Cares, we believe healing, growth, and leadership begin when people feel safe enough to be seen and heard. That’s why we work every day to create spaces where the tough conversations are accepted, encouraged, and supported.

We want every athlete, student, parent, and community member to know:

Highlight Mentee !!! ⚾️💚 BIGGER THAN THE JERSEY 💚⚾️

One of the most powerful moments from our Spring Break Tournament wasn’t a hit, a home run, or a highlight play.

It was a young student-athlete taking the time to learn about the mission of R2Cares and having the courage to speak on it.

In a world where athletes are often defined by statistics, rankings, and performance, we are working to change the game. We believe every athlete is a HUMAN first. Every player has a story. Every player faces challenges. Every player deserves support.

At R2Cares, our mission is simple: Strengthen Minds. Empower Communities.

We are building a network of mentors at every level—from youth athletes to college players, professional athletes, coaches, business leaders, and mental health advocates—so no one has to walk their journey alone.

To this young man: Thank you for your courage. Thank you for listening. Thank you for being willing to use your voice. Leaders aren’t always the loudest people in the room. Sometimes they’re the ones brave enough to start the conversation.

🔥 TAKE IT TO THE TOP – JUNE 6TH 🔥

R2Cares is excited to partner with the Lakeland Diamondbacks Baseball Lakeland Diamondbacks for another impactful Take It To The Top Workshop focused on building strong minds, strong futures, and creating memorable experiences for athletes and their families.

This special event will feature renowned mindset coach Ken Scobey alongside Coach Flo as they lead conversations and activities centered around confidence, resilience, leadership, and mental toughness. These lessons are designed to help athletes not only compete at a high level but thrive in life beyond the game.

📸 Brandon Collins will be on-site capturing the moments, stories, and energy of the day as we continue highlighting the human behind the athlete.
🏥 We are also excited to welcome Carlos from NextGen Rehab, who will be on-site providing valuable insight on athlete wellness, recovery, injury prevention, and taking care of your body throughout your athletic journey. His expertise will help athletes and families better understand the importance of physical health as part of long-term success.
⚾ Expect fun activities, community engagement, family involvement, and a few surprise guests who will help make this an unforgettable experience!

🏆 HONOR • HIGHLIGHT • MENTOR 🏆

Today we proudly honor two incredible leaders who continue to impact lives through service, mentorship, and opportunity — Alex Wych and Jemile Weeks . ⚾💪🏾

Alex Wych has continued to create meaningful opportunities through Minority Prospects, an organization dedicated to giving young athletes exposure, development, and access within the game of baseball. Minority Prospects is helping bridge gaps for players and families while creating environments where athletes feel seen, valued, and empowered. Alex continues to lead from the front by building relationships, mentoring youth, and helping athletes understand that their journey is bigger than just statistics and rankings. His passion for the game and for people continues to make a real difference in communities across the country.

Jemile Weeks continues to lead through purpose and impact with the organization. WEFAM represents more than a name — it represents family, mentorship, community, and empowermenty. Jemile has continued to pour into youth by teaching life lessons, leadership, accountability, and confidence through sports and community outreach. His willingness to give back, share wisdom from his journey, and remain present for the next generation speaks volumes about the man he is beyond the game.

At R2Cares, this is exactly what “Honor • Highlight • Mentor” is all about.

It’s about recognizing those who continue to use their platform to strengthen minds, empower communities, and create safe spaces for growth. Alex and Jemile are showing our youth what leadership truly looks like — not just with words, but through action and consistency.

Today we proudly honor .barnes.4 Heather Barnes of Avon Park — a true leader, coach, and community champion.
Whether she’s on the field as Head Softball Coach for Avon Park High School’s Lady Red Devils, leading as Head Strength Coach, serving as an Administrator, or running Crush Fastpitch, Heather gives everything she has to develop strong athletes and even stronger young women.
She leads by example, pours into her community, and shows what real dedication looks like.

🌟 R2Cares Highlight Spotlight of the Week 🌟

This week we want to take the time to highlight 3 individuals from the Polk County baseball community who continue to pour into the next generation. Three different journeys. Three different backgrounds. One common goal — giving back and creating opportunities for our youth. This is what Beyond the Jersey is all about. ❤️⚾

First, shoutout to Coach Reyni — one of the most solid individuals you’ll meet. A former college player who continues to grind daily through hitting instruction, mentorship, and leadership. Reyni consistently shows up for community events and never hesitates to help others. We appreciate your heart for the game and even bigger heart for people.

Next, we want to recognize Coach Frank. Tavares Current Lakeland High School coach and travel ball leader who truly has a passion for helping kids chase opportunities. Frank may not have played professional baseball, but he’s proof that impact isn’t measured by titles — it’s measured by service. This man will drive on his own dime just to help a kid get seen, learn, and grow. Frank, keep being great brother. The community sees your sacrifice and dedication. Tavares

And finally, Francisco “The Wizard” — former professional player and one of the best infield trainers around Polk County. The work you do with athletes speaks for itself, but even more important is the way the players get better. Keep telling your story bro.
