There is a version of you who has been circling something for a while now.

You are done being only the mom, the wife, the employee. You want to be a woman in a room with other women who see you. You are not sure where that room is anymore.

For a hundred and twenty years, that room in Lake Elsinore has been the Elsinore Woman's Club.

We are a community of women who put our energy into scholarships for local students, service for foster youth, support for domestic violence survivors, and each other. We meet on the second Thursday of every month. We laugh a lot. We eat well. We show up.

What happens after our chairwoman sits down is the whole point.

The announcement is over. The list is read. The clipboard has finished making its rounds. President Darlene Wharton closes the meeting. Somebody says lunch is ready.

And then thirty women, from all over Lake Elsinore, Murrieta, Wildomar and Temecula, spend the next forty-five minutes doing the thing they actually came for.

Talking to each other. Asking about each other's weeks. Introducing the first-time guest at the corner table to the woman who has been running the scholarship committee for fifteen years. Passing the salt. Trading recipes. Signing up for one more thing.

The podium was the plan. The lunch is the whole reason.

Look at the calendar our chairwoman is announcing tonight.

W**e tasting. Yoga. Stretch and Flow. Dine-out at Guadalajara. De Anza District meeting in Corona. International Day of Service at eleven Lake Elsinore elementary schools. The 120th Anniversary Celebration in October. A Fall Craft Fair and Chili Cookoff in November.

That is one club. In one valley. In one three-month stretch.

Somebody in Lake Elsinore, Murrieta, Wildomar or Temecula is going to look at this list and realize she has been waiting for a place like this without knowing what to call it.

The name of the place is the Elsinore Woman's Club.

The woman at the microphone was somebody's first-time guest once.

She walked in on a Thursday morning years ago, not sure where to sit. Somebody waved her over. Somebody at the table asked her name and remembered it the next month. She signed up for something on a clipboard. She showed up. Somebody thanked her.

Then she chaired a committee. Then she led a project. Then she gave the report at the podium. Then she took the podium for good.

Now she is the woman announcing what comes next for the Elsinore Woman's Club, and the whole room is listening.

That is not a rare story here. That is the story.

The only difference between the woman at the front and the woman thinking about walking in is time and one first meeting.

Lake Elsinore raised some of us. It adopted others. Some of us moved here last year. Some of us have been here since before the lake came back.

We are not a club for one type of woman. We are a club for women who love this place and want to put their hands on building it.

Scholarships for local students. Service hours at local Lake Elsinore schools. Sponsorships for kids playing sports in Wildomar and Canyon Lake. Fundraisers that stay local. Partnerships with Murrieta and Temecula small businesses.

When you give your time to Elsinore Woman's Club, you are not sending it to some distant cause. You are watching it land in your own neighborhood.

Look at this room.

Somewhere in this photo is your neighbor. Your child's teacher. The woman who runs the counter at the bakery you love. The friend of a friend you have been meaning to have coffee with. The woman who has been sitting three pews behind you at church for a decade.

They are all in one place. One night. One room. One Elsinore Woman's Club gathering in Lake Elsinore.

Every longtime member has a group photo like this on her phone. It is the one she pulls up when somebody asks her what the club is really about. Not the meetings, not the fundraisers, not even the service work. This. A room full of women who know each other and are glad to be together.
