🐾 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT from NEOCR 🐾

Please Don’t Shave Your Collie for Summer!

As the first day of Summer is tomorrow and the temperatures rise, we often see well‑meaning owners shaving their double‑coated dogs to “keep them cool.”
But shaving a Collie — or any double‑coated dog — does not cool them down.
It removes their natural insulation, increases heat risk, and can permanently damage the coat.

🎥 Watch this helpful explanation:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KMR7C0ViHo

🌤️ Why shaving is harmful
A double coat is designed to:
- Insulate against heat and cold
- Protect the skin from sunburn
- Allow airflow down to the skin
- Help the dog cool itself naturally

Shaving removes this protection and can lead to overheating, sunburn, and a coat that may never grow back correctly.

🚫 When shaving is appropriate
Only in cases of:
- Severe matting
- A veterinarian‑directed medical condition

Never for heat relief!

🌞 Safe ways to help your Collie stay cool
- Provide shade and fresh water
- Use fans or cooling mats
- Use a cooling vest during outdoor activities (like Piper's in the photo)
- Exercise only in mornings/evenings
- Brush regularly to remove loose undercoat

A healthy, brushed double coat is the best summer protection they have!

💛 Thank you for helping us keep Collies safe, comfortable, and protected this summer. Please share to help educate others.

🐾 New Arrivals needing a FOSTER🏡HOME at NorthEast Ohio Collie Rescue 🐾

We’re welcoming two handsome young boys into the rescue—half-sibling Collies who are approximately 1 year and 1.5 years old. 💙

These sweet pups were found living outside, so we are looking for a foster home where we can learn about their personalities and needs. They appear to be very friendly and social, and we were told they may be a bonded pair—but we’ll be doing further evaluations to better understand their relationship.

At this time:
🏡 House training is unknown
🐕 Temperaments are friendly and outgoing so far
🐾 Experience with small animals is uncertain, though we believe they may have been around them at some point

As always, we’ll take the time to properly evaluate them so we can find the best possible homes—whether that’s together or separately.

👉 If you’re interested in fostering or fostering-to-adopt, please click the link below and fill out a foster application.

🐾 Congratulations, Bonnie! 🐾

We are so proud to share that Bonnie, a Northeast Ohio Collie Rescue alumna, has officially passed her certification and is now a Therapy Dog! ❤️

When Bonnie came through rescue, we knew she was special, but seeing her go on to touch the lives of so many people is truly inspiring. Her gentle nature, loving heart, and calm demeanor make her the perfect ambassador for the Collie breed.

This achievement is a testament not only to Bonnie’s wonderful temperament but also to the dedication and hard work of her adoptive family. Together, they have put in countless hours of training and preparation to reach this milestone.

Bonnie will now be able to bring comfort, smiles, and companionship to those who need it most. We couldn’t be happier for her and her family as they begin this new chapter of service.

Please join us in congratulating Bonnie on this amazing accomplishment! 🎉🐾

World Pet Memorial Day: We Remember Together

At NEOCR, we know how deeply a pet can change a life. On World Pet Memorial Day, we honor every companion — furry, feathered, or scaled — who once walked, curled, perched, or fluttered beside us.

Their stories live on in the quiet moments, in the habits we still keep, in the love we carry forward. They are part of why we rescue, why we show up, why we believe in second chances.

If you’re remembering a cherished friend today, we welcome you to share their name, a cherished memory, and photos. May their spirit feel close and comforting.

🐾 Beau-Date! 🐾

In this update, we’re covering more of Beau’s journey—his health improvements, potty training progress, personality, noise sensitivities, and playful side!

Beau continues to amaze us with how far he has come in such a short time. His health has improved dramatically, his skin and coat continue to heal, and he’s gaining confidence every day. He is learning household routines, making great progress with potty training, and becoming more comfortable in new situations.

Personality-wise, Beau is a sweet, gentle boy who loves being close to his people. While some loud or unfamiliar noises can still make him a little nervous, he recovers much more quickly than he did when he first arrived. His brave side shines through a little more every day.

And playfulness? It’s definitely starting to emerge! Beau has discovered that toys can be fun and is beginning to show his goofy, happy side as he learns how to simply be a dog again.

The progress Beau has made has been nothing short of incredible. Because of how well and how quickly he has blossomed, we expect Beau will be looking for his forever home very soon!

If you think Beau might be the perfect addition to your family, let us know. We can’t wait to help this deserving boy find the loving home he’s worked so hard toward. ❤️

Beau-Date!!

Beau has figured out a lot of new things since being in the rescue. One thing he had not figured out yet is the frisbee game 😝 He’s a little paw-stuck
