As Fire Prevention Week comes to a close, remember that fire prevention doesn't end when the week is over.

Practice safe charging habits every day:
⚡ Use approved chargers and cords.
⚡ Charge devices on hard, flat surfaces.
⚡ Unplug devices when they're fully charged.
⚡ Keep large rechargeable devices from blocking exits.
⚡ Stop using batteries that are damaged, swollen, unusually hot, leaking, smoking, or making strange noises.
⚡ Make sure your home has working smoke alarms and a fire escape plan.
Safe charging is a superpower — use it every day!

🚨Fire prevention week🚨 is in full swing and the crews have been out at the local schools performing annual fire drills and conducting fire safety talks. This year the Pekin Fire Department is teaming up with NFPA to promote this year’s Fire Prevention Week™, October 4 -10, Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower. Do you charge your phone on your bed or couch?

It's time to find a safer spot!

Rechargeable devices can create heat while charging. Soft surfaces such as beds, pillows, blankets, and couches can trap that heat.

🔥 Charge devices on a hard, flat surface such as a table, desk, counter, or bare floor.
Never place a charging device underneath a pillow or blanket.
And when your device reaches a full charge, unplug it.
A safer charging location can help prevent a fire before it starts.

Not every charger is created equal!

One of the easiest ways to reduce the risk of a lithium-ion battery fire is to use the charger and cord that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.

⚠️ Avoid damaged, inexpensive, or off-brand chargers that may not meet proper safety standards.
Remember:

✅ Use the correct charger
✅ Replace damaged cords
✅ Follow the manufacturer's instructions
✅ Unplug devices when they are fully charged
Safe charging starts with the right equipment!

This week is National Fire Prevention Week!

The 2026 theme is:

⚡ Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower™ ⚡

Phones, tablets, laptops, power tools, e-bikes, toys, and many other devices we use every day are powered by lithium-ion batteries.

When these batteries are damaged, improperly charged, or overheated, they can become a serious fire hazard.
Throughout the week, LaGrange Fire & Rescue will be sharing simple tips to help you safely use and charge the devices in your home.

A few small changes in the way we charge our devices can make a big difference in preventing fires.

🍁 FALL BURN BAN REMINDER 🍁

LaGrange Firefighter Association would like to remind everyone that Ohio’s seasonal fall burn ban is in effect October 1 through November 30.

During this time, open burning is prohibited between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

Dry leaves, grass, low humidity, and gusty fall winds can cause a small fire to spread quickly.

🚫 Please remember:
• No open burning of leaves, brush, yard waste, or debris between 6 AM and 6 PM.
• Burning may be permitted between 6 PM and 6 AM when conditions are safe and the fire is attended at all times.
• Never burn household garbage, plastics, tires, rubber, or other prohibited materials.

Local ordinances may be more restrictive, so always check the rules where you live before burning.

Help us keep LaGrange safe this fall. In an emergency, call 911.

🇺🇸 We Will Never Forget 🇺🇸

Today, the LaGrange Firefighter Association joins our nation in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We honor the firefighters, police officers, emergency personnel, service members, and ordinary citizens who displayed extraordinary courage in the face of tragedy. We also remember the families whose lives were forever changed.

May we never forget their bravery, sacrifice, and service.
