Youth Leadership Matters!

At Every 1 Voice Matters, we believe developing strong leaders starts long before adulthood. Leadership is not just about being in charge—it’s about giving young people the tools, confidence, and mindset to make healthy decisions and navigate real-life challenges.

That means teaching our youth how to:

Handle peer pressure and have the confidence to say NO.
Manage and resolve conflicts without violence.
Develop a strong, positive mindset.
Build self-confidence and self-esteem.
Communicate effectively and express their emotions.
Practice accountability and responsibility.
Make positive decisions, even when no one is watching.
Understand that walking away can be a sign of strength, not weakness.
Recognize their potential and become leaders in their schools, homes, and communities.

These are skills that may not always be taught in a textbook, but they can influence the decisions a young person makes for a lifetime.

When we teach youth how to manage themselves, overcome challenges, think before reacting, and believe in who they are, we aren't simply preparing future leaders—we're empowering young people to lead right now.

At Every 1 Voice Matters, our goal is to help develop the whole child—because empowered youth can become empowered adults who strengthen entire communities.

Today, on National Overdose Awareness Day, we recognize the lives impacted by overdose while also focusing on something that can change the future: PREVENTION. 💜

At Every 1 Voice Matters, we believe prevention should begin early. Our children need more than warnings—they need the tools to understand their emotions, manage challenges, make healthy decisions, handle peer pressure, and know that it is okay to ask for help.

Through the evidence-based PreVenture Program, our certified facilitators work to help young people build resilience and strengthen skills that can reduce the risk of substance misuse before it starts.

When we educate early, recognize the signs, start conversations, and intervene when needed, we have an opportunity to change outcomes and save lives.

💜 **National Overdose Awareness Day** 💜

Today, we remember the lives lost to overdose, stand with the families and communities impacted, and remind those who are struggling that their lives matter.

But awareness must also lead to PREVENTION and EARLY INTERVENTION.

Prevention starts long before a crisis. It starts with our children. By creating safe spaces for honest conversations, teaching healthy coping skills, recognizing early warning signs, and educating youth about the dangers of substance use, we can help them make healthier choices before problems begin.

We can't wait until a child is in crisis to start the conversation. Early education, prevention, and intervention can save lives.

At Every 1 Voice Matters, we are committed to empowering youth and families with education, resources, mental health awareness, and early drug prevention and intervention.

Self-management is a life skill every child needs.

Self-management is the ability to understand your emotions, control your reactions, manage stress, stay focused, and make positive choices—even when things don’t go your way.

For our youth, learning self-management can affect how they:

✨ Handle frustration and anger
✨ Respond to conflict instead of reacting impulsively
✨ Stay focused in the classroom
✨ Communicate their feelings
✨ Make responsible decisions
✨ Build healthy relationships
✨ Deal with disappointment and peer pressure
✨ Believe in themselves and keep going when things get difficult

When children don’t have the tools to manage their emotions, what looks like a “behavior problem” may actually be a child struggling to express what they are feeling.

That’s why we must do more than tell our youth to calm down” or “behave. We have to TEACH them the tools to understand their emotions, manage their responses, and make healthier choices.

At Every 1 Voice Matters, we believe empowering youth with these skills today can help them become more confident, resilient, and responsible adults tomorrow.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Matters!

Our young people are facing challenges that aren't always easy to see. Anxiety, depression, bullying, trauma, substance use, and other struggles can show up in many different ways. That's why it's so important for the adults who support them to know the signs, start the conversation, and know how to respond.

At Every 1 Voice Matters, we believe supporting youth mental health starts with education, awareness, and early intervention.

Through Youth Mental Health First Aid Training, we help equip parents, educators, community leaders, youth-serving organizations, and other caring adults with the knowledge and tools to recognize when a young person may be struggling and provide appropriate support until professional help is available.

Because you only know what you know and when we know better, we can respond better.

One of the topics that I discuss with children is the importance of being able to effectively communicate with their parents.

Listed below is ten ways we discuss in our Lil Herbie Series Coaching Program how effective communication between a parent and a child can help at-risk youth become the best version of themselves both in and and outside of the classroom.

1. Builds Trust: Open dialogue fosters a sense of trust and safety, enabling children to share their thoughts, concerns, and experiences without fear of judgment.

2. Enhances Understanding: Effective communication helps parents grasp their child's emotions, struggles, and viewpoints, leading to more empathetic and informed parenting decisions.

3. Supports Emotional Development: Encouraging children to express their feelings helps them develop emotional intelligence, cope with challenges, and build resilience.

4. Promotes Healthy Relationships: Strong communication skills learned in childhood lay the foundation for healthy relationships in adulthood, including friendships, romantic partnerships, and professional interactions.

5. Facilitates Learning: Discussing ideas and asking questions encourages curiosity, intellectual growth, and a love for learning.

6. Prevents Misunderstandings: Clear communication reduces misunderstandings and conflicts, enabling parents and children to address issues promptly and effectively.
