Update:
Jerquell’s new kidney is WORKING. She is doing great! She is now getting around the house very well and driving short distances! She has shed 25lbs in two weeks of water weight, dialysis did suck. Jerquell no longer has to be on dialysis. She is still on the mend from the transplant surgery but feels better than she has felt in the past 11 years. Jerquell’s family and friends are grateful that they get to keep her here on Earth. When they look at her they see life and the rosey color has returned to her checks (According to her grandma Baxter). It over joys them because that is a sign of life! Consider being an organ donor on your license and also consider being a living kidney donor. It saves lives! It saved Jerquell’s life!

Did you know.....that you don’t have to be a match at all to give Jerquell a second chance at life. With the switch program at MUSC even if you are not a match at all you can still donate your kidney to a patient in need if you don’t match with Jerquell. Jerquell will then get a kidney that is a perfect match for her. Get tested to see if you could be a donor. Wouldn’t you like to see Jerquell live a full life and continue to make memories with her son and family? Be instrumental in that! Call (843) 792-1594 if you would like to be a living donor. Her story is below ❤️

Jerquell battles with Polycystic Kidney disease. Jerquell’s kidneys are covered with a bunch of cysts and because their is not enough healthy kidney tissue she began to go into kidney failure at the young age of 27. She suffers through this disease because the cysts in her kidneys are painful and cause infections. It is a disease that was acquired via genetics. Jerquell has been battling this disease for 10 years. Just this past December, she had to have her left kidney removed and a dialysis port placed. She spent 10 days in the hospital. Recovery took all together close to 6 weeks due to the fact that she has had some complications with her dialysis port. She just recently had to have another surgery 1/23/2019 to have her dialysis port fixed and ended up getting a bad infection. She is now stable. What she needs is a kidney transplant. A kidney transplant will help her get off of dialysis and it will give her a better quality of life. Jerquell likes to go out, have fun, and travel. Dialysis makes it hard for her to be able to do these things. She just wants to live a normal life and be able to take care of her 4 year old son. He is her world and he needs her. Her son’s name is Tajh. Jerquell lives in Ladson and helps other with a career as a Dental Hygienist. She loves to sing and enjoys nights out on the town. All proceeds through the mini sessions will go to Jerquell to raise money to receive a kidney transplant.
