END OF YEAR LEARNING ADVENTURES

On May 6th, the children attending the Felician Center Learning Adventure Program enjoyed a celebration of outdoor and indoor activities.
Games of ring toss, bocci ball and co****le entertained the children until it was time for snack.
Hot dogs with chili, chips and drinks made the event seem more festive. There were ice cream treats, too.
A short reading session was interspersed in the activities and children took home a book for some summertime reading.
The Sisters, Emma Miller and Claire Tejero directed all the activities.
Summer grab bags were given to each child to take home filled with art activities, drink bottles, snacks, Legos, trinkets, hula hoops, sticky mitt gloves or badminton type rackets for outdoor fun.
Both students and their parents/guardians also completed evaluations of the Learning Center for the academic year 2025-2026.

St. Ann Catholic Church International Students Celebrate

The Felician Sisters planned some activities to celebrate the achievements of the international children at St. Ann Catholic church. The children of teachers come from Cameroon, Philippines and India. All these children have been on honor rolls at all levels, and excelled in reading, math, spelling, music, art, science, and social studies contests.

Some of the boys enjoyed a morning of bowling and the arcade in Florence with a Chik-fil-a lunch stop.

Some of the other students enjoyed the musical production of FROZEN at the Florence Little Theater and lunch at Ruby Tuesdays.

Kesha Pagal and Kurt Tejero, Kingstree High School Senior graduates 2026, and Keethan Pagal shared supper at Jarritos to celebrate.

There is much pride in knowing that these families contribute much success to the educational system of Williamsburg County School District.

A reception after liturgy on Sunday, May 31st will also be held to honor all the student achievements.

Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church Blesses Felician Center

Under the leadership of Sharon Galloway, FCI board member and parishioner of OLSS Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach, the Women’s Guild donated and prepared Easter baskets for the children in the Learning Adventure program. The children engaged in some Easter art activities, watched a DVD with the Easter story of the resurrection, enjoyed an egg hunt and celebrated the holiday/holyday.

A few days later, several men from Knights of Columbus Council #7122 from OLSS journeyed to Kingstree to volunteer in a workday for Felician Center. Lights were changed, driveways were pressure washed, hedges were trimmed, pine straw spread and utility closets cleaned out. Local volunteers Lee and Kim Lineberger were also assisting in the outdoor tasks.

Felician Center HEALTH SERIES

During March and April, a series of Health programs are being presented at Felician Center on Wednesdays at 9:30 AM. The SC Department of Public Health and Williamsburg County Behavioral Health Services are offering programs on oral care, to***co, and va**ng, opioids and Narcan. Sister Carol, Program Committee Chairperson, Sarah Reynolds, Program Committee member, Kiara Lint and Renee Wiley completed To***co and Va**ng presentation on March 18th . More presentations are scheduled for April 22nd and April 29th. The public is invited.

PEACE IN A CHAOTIC WORLD RETREAT

The Felician Center Mission Integration Team planned and hosted a retreat entitled, “Peace in a Chaotic World” on Saturday, February 28, 2026. Board members, staff and volunteers participated in the creative and inspirational sessions led by Rev. Eva Ruth, local Presbyterian minister.

Various Scripture passages were explored that addressed, “what is Biblical peace?”, “what does Jesus teach us about peace?”, and “where does chaos most intrude our inner life?”. Various styles of prayer practices included e.g. breath prayer, lectio divina and a closing blessing of a gesture with a silent gaze praying peace for one another.

As a takeaway, the participants received a Peace Prayer of St. Francis magnet to pray at home. A delicious brunch of casseroles, muffins, fruit, juice and coffee was served.

In observance of the upcoming National Sisters Week (March 8-14), the attendants were given a piece of ribbon to create a ribbon of hope by writing a word or short phrase of hope for the Felician Sisters and this ministry. The ribbons were then tied together in a chain as a sign of collective faith linking our locations across North America and to the wider Catholic Sisters Week movement of Unbroken Hope.

Felician Center Learning Advertures Feb Events

Black History Month + Valentine Celebrations
On February 11, the children in the Learning Adventure Program were engaged in various activities for both Black History Month and Valentine’s Day.
Sisters Carol, Johnna and Susanne engaged groups of children in a reading session including several African American success stories. The youngest group read and studied Harriet Tubman. The middle group studied Rosa Parks, and the older group studied Jess Owens and Jackie Robinson. The entire group convened and each group shared their learnings. Hopefully this was a motivation for the children to discover their own talents, exhibit bravery and courage when right needs to overcome wrong, and lastly to work on developing their own God given talents.
Afterwards, the children engaged in various Valentine art activities including making a card with a loving message for their parents and even grandmothers in some cases. There were lots of hearts and lace and reds and pinks to decorate their masterpieces. A Valentine decoration to take home was also created. Afterwards the children played Valentine Bingo and shopped for a free gift they wrapped up in Valentine tissue for their parent.
