GSC Coming Out Week 2026 ☑️

For the past 8 years, International Pronouns Day has raised awareness about different pronouns and what they mean, helping people discover what best represents them.

Today and every day, be confident in your identity.

Remember, there is no shame in changing your pronouns and/or trying out different ones. That is the beauty of self-expression, nothing is set in stone and you are free to explore your own identity! Also remember, it’s important to respect the pronouns of those around us. We all deserve to feel respected, seen, and safe in our communities and workplaces.

Join us today, October 21st in the Memorial Union at Booth 4 to make your own pronoun pin or pick one up to wear! All are welcome!

Coming soon! On Friday, November 20th, join the URI Gender & Sexuality Center for Transgender Day of Remembrance 2026 as we honor the lives of the transgender people we have lost and make space for grief, remembrance, and hope. The evening will feature music by Quorus of Newport Sings, a reading of the names of transgender people we have lost this year, and a keynote address by Sherenté Harris. All are welcome! 🦋🕯️🏳️‍⚧️🕯️🦋

This week! Looking for an opportunity to get creative this Halloween season? Join us on Wednesday, October 14th from 6-8pm in the GSC for an autumnal art night by painting pumpkins! To participate, register using the link in our bio. 🎨🎃🍕

The GSC will offer a variety of art supplies so that you can turn a small pumpkin into a work of art! Whether it’s with paint, googly eyes or stickers, we have lots of available arts and crafts materials to facilitate your vision. This is also an excellent event for getting to know other students and community members! Pizza will be provided. All are welcome and we look forward to seeing you there!

Welcome to ‘The Q***r Guide to Finding Your People.’ In this post, we encourage you to stay open-minded to all the new experiences that await you this academic year: Joining clubs and classes that pique your interest–Spending your free time attending events and exploring various centers/resources–and challenging yourself to go out even if you’re flying solo! Chances are, many of the people around you are there for the same reason: to connect, meet new people, and make friends.

Next Monday, 9/28! The URI Gender & Sexuality Center welcomes you to join our Sapphic Book Club, a weekly, welcoming space dedicated to centering sapphic stories, authors, and readers. From contemporary romance to speculative fiction and q***r classics, we will explore a wide range of books and engage in meaningful conversations about love, identity, joy, and resistance.

No prior book club experience required.
All are welcome!

This semester, the 1st book we will be reading is ATMOSTPHERE by New York Times Best-Selling Author, Taylor Jenkins Reid. Students who attend our next meeting on Monday, September 28th will receive a free copy!

The annual celebration for International Bisexual Visibility Day began 27 years ago. Three bisexual activists from the United States, Wendy Curry, Michael Page, and Gigi Raven Wilbur founded this day on September 23, 1999. Originally, groups such as Bi-Ways and AmBi helped paved the way for this holiday is now celebrated by over 30 countries. It is important we continue to bring awareness and acceptance to this community, working to end the social stigma and invalidation that comes along with being bisexual. Today we celebrate bisexuals presence in the LGBTQIA2S+ community at the URI Gender & Sexuality Center. Happy Bisexual Visibility Day! 🩷💙💜
