Coming to the SVVFA Regional School September 17th at 6:30pm at the Lake Country Learning Center. No registration or ticket required.
This session explores the mental state of always having your brain “on alert,” the transition from the firehouse back to home, and what
that transition can look like for both the first responder and the person waiting on the other side of the shift. Ever come home mad or cranky constantly and you’re not sure why?
Stephanie White and Billy Hux bring a unique perspective: both have been members of the fire service, and both are married to someone in the fire service. Together they’ll combine an understanding of hypervigilance with an honest discussion about what they’ve learned from occupying both sides of the relationship — what they got wrong, what they’ve learned to recognize in each other, and what has helped them better navigate the space between work and home.
This isn’t another conversation about “leaving the job at the door.” It’s about understanding what we carry through it, and how to help
your firefighter switch successfully between their two worlds as a family.
