Timberland Invasives Partnership Timberland Invasives Partnership (TIP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to controlling invasives species across its four-county management area.

Timberland Invasives Partnership (TIP) is what is known as a Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (CISMA). The purpose of CISMAs like TIP is to combat invasive species and the negative effects they have on the ecological and economic well-being of the communities they infest. TIP itself was established with the help of the US Forest Service in 2012. Since that time it has been working to b

uild a cooperative partnership between State, Federal, Tribal, and local governments as well as individuals and organizations to help combat invasive species in Langlade, Menominee, Oconto and Shawano Counties. To ensure a successful partnership, TIP has each of its partners sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) indicating that the partners agree that it is their mutual benefit and interest to work cooperatively to manage invasive species across jurisdictional boundaries within the TIP CISMA.

Contact with the plant may cause ๐›๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐๐ž๐ซ๐ฆ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ฌ, so wear protective clothing when handling it. โš ๏ธ

๐ŸŒฟ ๐‡๐จ๐ฐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ˆ๐๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐Ÿ๐ฒ ๐ˆ๐ญ:
โœ”๏ธ Leaves: Opposite, 2โ€“5 inches long, with serrated edges and divided into five or more deep lobes.
โœ”๏ธ Stems: Annual, herbaceous vines that can grow up to 35 feet long with stiff, downward-pointing prickly hairs.
โœ”๏ธ Flowers: Small, dull green flowers form in the leaf axils. Male flowers grow on upright spikes, and female flower clusters droop. Blooms from July through September.
โœ”๏ธ Seeds: Yellow-brown achenes that are dispersed by both wind and water.

โ€ข Invades floodplains, streambanks, lakeshores, and other moist habitats.

โ€ข Contact with the plant can cause skin irritation, blisters, and dermatitis.

โ€ข Learn to identify Japanese hops before it produces seeds.
โ€ข Wear gloves and long sleeves when handling the plant to prevent skin irritation.
โ€ข Remove small infestations before they spread, making sure to dispose of plants properly.
โ€ข Report suspected infestations to help prevent further spread.

๐ŸŒฑCurrently, there are no reports of Japanese hops in the TIP region. However, the species is present in southeastern Wisconsin, making early detection and reporting important to help prevent the spread.

The pale swallow-wort has been confirmed by the DNR in Oconto and Shawano counties, affecting native populations in forests and grasslands.

This past weekend, Timberland Invasives Partnership (TIP) partnered with Waterways Association of Menominee and Shawano Counties, Inc. (WAMSCO) for a morning of invasive species education at Gibson Island.

TIP Coordinator, Brianna discussed terrestrial invasive species found in Shawano County and demonstrated how community members can report sightings using EDDMapS.

Following the presentations, attendees joined us for a walk around Gibson Island to practice invasive species identification and reporting. Along the way, we found roundleaf bittersweet, Dame's rocket, common buckthorn, bush honeysuckle, and black locust.
