Volcano Art Center Golf Tournament has been rescheduled to:
Saturday, November 7th | 9am

The Volcano Art Center invites golfers and community supporters to its Golf Tournament at the Volcano Golf Course, located at 99-1621 Piimauna Drive in Volcano, Hawaiʻi. The event takes place on Saturday, November 7th, 2026, with check-in at 8AM and tee time at 9AM. This four-person scramble includes 18 holes of golf with cart, range balls, bento lunch, awards and door prizes.
$125 per player
All proceeds support education and community programs at the Volcano Art Center.

Hula Kahiko in the Park

Hula Arts at Kilauea: Hula Kahiko performance on September 12th 10:30 am, featuring Manaiakalani Kālua with Akaunu Held outdoors at the kahua hula (hula platform) in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. Park entry fees apply. (808) 967-7565. The monthly performances are supported in part by the Hawaii Tourism Authority.

Kumu Hula Manaiakalani Kalua is from the hīnano scented shores of Keaukaha. He received his first ‘ūniki in 2007 under Taupōuri Tangarō and renewed his vows with Laka at his second ‘ūniki in 2009. Manaiakalani establshed his hālau, Akaunu, in 2012 and they are now housed in the brimming, bank kissing water ways of Pōnahawai. Akaunu is grounded in the traditions of UNUKUPUKUPU and Hālau O Kekuhi. Manaiakalani is an educator specializing in ka‘ao, mo‘olelo, haku mele, and Hawai‘i cultural literacy. He works as a teacher and consultant with various entities including Ka ‘Umeke Kā‘eo Public Charter School, Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i campus, Windward Community College, and various community groups and organizations.

Life Is A Beach with Puakea Soares

Join Puakea Soares on Saturday, September 19th at VAC Niaulani Campus from 10am – 12pm. Create your own piece of Hawaiʻi with this fun and relaxing painting class. Choose your favorite beach scene and design a beautiful keepsake ornament using acrylic paints, sand, shells, and natural elements. You can choose your beach Punaluʻu (black sand beach) or ʻAnahoʻomalu (white sand beach). The class fee is $45 / $40 for VAC members, plus a supply fee for one ornament $20 for two ornaments $40.

Concert: A Tribute to Bob Dylan by the Ing Crowd
OCTOBER 10, 2026 · 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM

You are invited to come and enjoy a swinging evening at the Volcano Art Center Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village. (19-4074 Old Volcano Road), October 10th, 2026, at 5:30pm.

It’s an all Dylan tribute show by the Ing Crowd , spanning well-known hits from his early folk music days and then into his rock era Sings from Blowing in the wind, Don’t Think Twice, Like A Rolling Stone, All Along The Watchtower and many other classics. The group, spearheaded by Hoku Award Winner Wendell Ing on keyboard and vocals, includes Trever Veilleux in guitar and vocals, Gonzo on bass, Thomas on drums, and Oakley on pedal steel.
Tickets are $25 for VAC members ($30 non-members)!

The Ing Crowd is a Big Island based group. Spearheaded by Wendell Ing on keyboards and vocals, Trever Veilleux on guitar, Gonzo on bass and Tom Yoes on drums.
Their music is wide ranging spanning jazz, blues, rock, country and world influences. blended into a free-wheeling mix. “ We’re pleased to do Dylan tribute concert. One of the most prolific and influential American songwriters, the messages in his songs are as relevant today as they were when he wrote them, from his support of the underdog to his biting, bittersweet love songs.”

“I like to think of music as painting pictures in sound. I’m a big fan of impressionism.Storm, clouds, birds singing, the ebb and flow of they ocean— sounds of the natural world figure in my improvisations.”

As a recording artist Ing has released multiple albums and is a Hoku Hanohano award winner. He has played or recorded with many Hawaii music legends including Diana Aki, C&K, John Keawe, Gary Haleamau, Colin John and Larry Dupio.
Trever Veilleux is also a recording artist and us known for being one of the premier guitarists on the Big Island. He also leads the Hilo Jazz Orchestra.

Print Lab: Mono Print and Mixed Media Exploration September 23rd – October 28th

Discover the endless possibilities of one-of-a-kind printmaking in this six-week exploration of monoprinting and mixed media. Unlike traditional edition printing, monoprinting celebrates experimentation, spontaneity, and the beauty of unexpected results.

Throughout the series, we’ll explore a variety of techniques including cyanotype (sun printing), gel plate printing, painted monoprints, photo and image transfers, trace drawing, stencils, texture, layering, and other playful approaches to creating unique prints. We’ll investigate how these methods can stand alone or be combined to build rich, expressive surfaces.

This class is perfect for artists, beginners, and curious makers who enjoy experimenting with materials and discovering new ways to create images. Each week introduces new techniques while leaving plenty of room for personal exploration and creative discovery in a supportive studio environment.

No previous printmaking experience is necessary. Come ready to play, experiment, and leave with a collection of unique prints and fresh ideas for your artistic practice.6-week session: $120/$108 for VAC Members, plus a $20 material fee.

Bound By Compassion
August 29th - September 20th

The Volcano Art Center proudly announces the upcoming exhibit Bound By Compassion opening on Saturday, August 29th and continuing through September 20, 2026 at the Volcano Art Center Niaulani Campus (19-4074 Old Volcano Rd.) in Volcano Village.
The show is open Wednesday – Sunday, 10 am – 4 pm.

Meet the artists at the opening reception today, Saturday, August 29th, from 2-4pm.

This three-week event features a group exhibition showcasing the art work of Charlene Asato, Lisa-Louise Adams, Roslyn Moresh, and Robin Scanlon. This group of artists meets monthly to make books together. Their art is infused with warmth and compassion for the elements of the Hawaiian environment. They translate their love and spirit into more than books! The multi-media exhibition held in Dietrich Varez Hall features original paintings, handmade books, and fiber arts.
In addition to the exhibition, the participating artists are teaching a Book Making Workshop on Saturday, September 5th from 9:30am - 1:30pm. Join this incredibly talented group of women artists in creating two types of sculptural books with unique art pages utilizing watercolor and slow stitch embellishments. Registration is required.

A Small Step Forward 🙏🏻

We’re happy to share that this Friday, the Volcano Art Center Gallery in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park will have a soft opening from 10 AM–3:00 PM.

While the Park continues to experience a power outage, we’re doing our best to adapt. For now, only our Gallery lobby will be open, featuring a special selection of some of our best-selling artwork and gifts from our local artists.

Cash is preferred but we’ll also accept Credit Cards.
We appreciate your patience as we work with limited resources and a temporary setup.

Our Niaulani Campus will remain closed until further notice.

Our island is still working hard to recover, and we want to extend our deepest thanks to the emergency crews, utility workers, first responders, Park staff, and everyone working around the clock to restore power and help our communities recover. We are incredibly grateful for the crews working nonstop to get things back to normal. ❤️

This may not be our usual Gallery experience, but we’re grateful to be able to open our doors in some capacity and welcome our community and visitors back.

With another storm approaching, plans may change, so please continue to follow us here for the latest updates.
