Why we don’t use AI here at Joyful Noise Fine Arts
A note from Cathy Williams-Dietsch , voice teacher and performer with Cathy Dietsch Performing Arts and founder of JNFA.
Dear friends, I know you have seen some posts and flyers with AI graphics, but rest assured, everything I have made here was done on Canva or with my own camera or other photographers. It wasn’t until my own children told me that some of the graphics on Canva are also AI that I even realized what I had done. I am old school, I worked as an administrator and personal assistant for many years. But that was before all these graphics that could be produced in seconds. I used old school software, long before AI was invented.
As a musician, actor, writer, and photographer, their words got me thinking. AI has no place in the creative arts. JNFA exists to bridge the barriers between those who can and those who can not experience the gift of the arts on their own. We provide opportunities in all of the fine arts for everyone regardless of age, ability, or financial means. Through classes, workshops, retreats, community theatre, and vendor events, everyone has the opportunity to experience music, theatre, dance, photography, and other visual arts.
So what does this have to do with AI? Everything. I won’t go into any political debates about it, but I will say when I, someone who’s been passionate her entire life about the arts, and preaching that the arts belong to everyone, uses a magic wand to create “art” in a second, I am beyond hypocritical. I used to think it was *just a tool* until I realized it was counterproductive.
From now on, my flyers will be created by my incredibly talented artistic child who knows how to create actual art on a computer *without* AI, more simple ones will be done by me. Our painting night events will have a blank canvas for *you* to create, no AI generated coloring books here. Music, theatre, and everything else we offer you will also be done by humans.
I hope you sing, I hope you dance, I hope you make a joyful noise. With love, Cathy
